Depends on Cruise Line and ship within that cruise line. Some have very tiny showers (Princess, Cunard) and others are more roomy (M class of Celebrity, Fantasy class of Carnival)... I asked for one in an inside cabin on Coral Princess and there was barely room to stand with it there. EMEM

They gave us a shower chair for DD in regular cabins on RCI, and had no problem with it fitting in the shower. It was just a stool, no back. She normally stands in the shower at home, but we were afraid for her balance on board ship if the motion could be felt while she was in the shower, especially if she was wet when she lost her balance. You just need to store it in the shower, since there's no room in the bathroom for it otherwise.

Depends on the shower chair and the specific shower stall.

Before we needed only a roll-in shower and bought our own travel rolling shower/commode chair, I sometimes put a ship's pool-side deck chair inside the shower for my mother to use; better than a back-less, arm-less shower stool, especially in rough seas.
