Easier to book than cancel!

Recently cancelled an upcoming X cruise based on our X recent cruise...cruuse was not terrible, not great...mostly meh!

Cruise was booked via a Celeb vac planner, and our X excursions and X specialty dining were booked online. Those went through to our credit card as soon as booking and res were made

We were able to easily cancel the dining and excursion bookings online...amts already credited on our Credit Card. To cancel the cruise we had to call, give a reason and have the rep try to save the booking, Never had that before. Maybe they get credit if they turn it around???

Did not receive an e mail confirming cancellation so called again today..was told it would take about 10 days for the credit card to recieve the credit . Seems kind of a long turn around when the online went through so easily and our Cruise Planner shows it was cancelled.

Anyone thinking of cancelling should cancel all add--ons online first if you want quicker credits...and then deal with X for the cruise itself.

Where did you go on the meh cruise and which ship? Only asking as we thought our last Reflection cruise in the summer wasn’t up to par.

We recently canceled my parents cruise with us next month just before final payment. We dont book excursions until after final payment. All I did was email my TA and she canceled the cruise for my parents. I just checked if the deposit was credited back to my visa and yes it was.

Infinity Ca Coastal from LA...

We were really using the ship as transport to the ports..enjoyed them all...sad to see the fires start a few days after we were there.

We knew the ship was old from last yr...but failing AC, mildew in shower, sewer smell were bad in our AQ cabin,...

. Many super seniors on board,,guess we'll be that age soon but it did slow things down quite a bit on the ship.

.BLU had good service and food, but not as attentive as in the past..Pretty much the same all over. And the Elite Sr Officers party had all levels of Cap Club except the first level so not very special...overcrowded and very poor canapes .Music on board was mixed & CD was good but no one will match Dru P.

Overall we had a nice cruise, met some nice folks, cruise critic etc...but overall not amazing! Too much emphasis on booze over cuisine!

Taking a break til EDGE 2019....

hcat ... we were supposed to go on that cruise with you all and had to cancel for my niece's wedding (which was amazingly beautiful, by the way). I am sorry to hear you were disappointed. I love the Infinity but haven't sailed on her in 2 years. I saddened to hear she wasn't at her best ... especially since she went into a quite extensive dry dock since our last sailing on her.

We did sail on the Solstice back in May ...mainly because we canceled this Infinity sailing that you had booked. We had an amazing time on the Solstice!! Wish our options with Celebrity were a little more varied here on the west coast than the few they currently offer for us. The Edge does look wonderful but she won't be sailing over on this coast for many moons, I suspect. Still wish they would home port one of their ships in San Francisco ... I'd be on it as often as possible.

Maybe one day, we'll finally meet up on a cruise. Sorry to hear this last one wasn't the best.

We have decided to give Princess a try next year from SF. Yes older ship, but Reflection was X’s newest and we were not impressed with her this past summer in the Med.

We've sailed on the Grand several times and have 3 future cruises booked on her. Don't expect the ship to compare in any way, shape or form to Celebrity's S-class ships. Just don't go expecting her to be up to par with what you find on the newer glitzier ships or you may be very disappointed. The crew / staff is wonderful and sailing under the Golden Gate is priceless ... but the ship itself leaves a lot to be desired. It is very old ... it was built way back when in the late 90's ... so no bells or whistles on this old gal. It doesn't mean you won't have an outstanding cruise, though. Just go with realistic expectations.

Thanks for the warning ;). We really like the M class ships, so we are hoping she will be something similar . Is she in the same class a Caribbean Princess? A change is as good as a rest and we do love Alaska. Sailing out of SF will be a first for us and we’re hoping to tag on a few days in Las Vegas and SF pre cruise.

I like the M class ships as well but love the S class ships even more so.

I am not criticizing Princess in the very least ... we have double the cruises on that line as we do on Celebrity. I just wish they would give us a better ship for our home port of San Francisco because it is an absolutely gorgeous port.

The Grand is quite a bit different than the Caribbean Princess .. older and smaller. She doesn't have a Riviera deck so the Aloha deck is right under the pool deck. She does have an indoor pool, whereas the Caribbean does not (for me, a must in Alaska). There is no usable center staircase past the 7th deck ... so be prepared for bottlenecks in the aisles to the aft stairs. She also doesn't have Skywalkers (the handlebar). Rather, the One5 Club, a much smaller venue, is used for events normally held in Skywalkers instead. The ventilation system is horrible ... it will be freezing in some areas just to make sure other areas throughout the ship are not stuffy. The smoke from the casino pours out into the area around the guest services desk. I have not found the maintenance of the ship to be adequate (lots of rust, broken or worn furniture, missing tiles, etc). The public bathrooms were a disgrace and no hot tubs actually had hot water. But, I haven't sailed on her since the last dry dock so it might be in better shape now.

Oh, and she does have window suite cabins, just as the Caribbean Princess has ...so that's a plus. Other positives are:

They do have Alfredos, which is an indoor pizza parlor ... not my favorite but others rave about it. I understand all the beds and bedding has been upgraded on Princess. Others have also raved about this feature. The crew and staff were just outstanding on every cruise I have taken on the Grand. We call it the cruise ship of 'yes' because they bend over backwards to fill your every request. Their prices are cheaper for just about everything onboard, including cocktails and specialty dining. We think the Crown Grill is absolutely outstanding, just as we find at Muranos, but for half the price. They do not have sommeliers like on Celebrity but there is a wine bar called Vines that has some impressive choices and sometimes someone working there that has good knowledge of wines. Their policy for bringing wine onboard is so much more liberal than that on Celebrity.

We are actually looking into another Alaskan cruise, maybe on the Grand but maybe on Celebrity for the late season in 2019. So, I do book her even though she isn't my favorite ship ... I've not had anything but wonderful cruises on her and I hope the same for you. As mentioned, there is nothing quite like sailing out / into San Francisco ... it is really that special. It's expensive to stay there ... but worth every penny!!

Thanks for the added information. We’ve booked Caribe deck as I believe the balconies are slightly bigger?

We personally thought Reflection was too crowded and there were several issues that weren’t akin to the usual X standards. The ‘notch up’ from other similar lines had definitely disappeared. The cruise was clearly a ‘mass market’ sailing and the alcohol consumption was just a little too much for certain individuals.

We thought about you..glad the wedding was great. We did have a nice cruise but wish the ship was in better shape. Very nice roll call group..many stayed at Hilton Doubletree pre cruise

While we enjoyed SF overnight, the port was a real surprise with that VERY long wooden ramp...looks like it could use an upgrade ....very unique to say the least.

Golden Gate..day and night...truly amazing!

HAPPY SAILS!

Thanks hcat! My niece's mom does party planning and catering as a profession ... and wow .. there was attention to even the smallest detail. I am sure it cost them a pretty penny but it was perfection!! It was a fairy tale evening and even the weather cooperated. They couldn't have wanted for more.

I am surprised the Infinity wasn't in good shape. We heard the same about her when on a Sept 2015 cruise ... but we had one of those corner aft family veranda suites so nothing could have clouded our vision more. We saw everything through rose colored glasses. We also were treated to the captain's table for dinner and sail away on the helipad. We were sent several bottles of wine / champagne from guest services and the captain's club hostess. We just felt so spoiled that I don't think we noticed anything else. Not sure what we did to deserve all the special treatment ... thought maybe they mistook us for someone important. hahaha!! Anyway, turned out to be one of my favorite cruises of all times.

Hmmmm.... long wooden ramp in SF at the pier? Perhaps they docked at Pier 35 instead of the newer and much nicer Pier 27? I hear tale that Princess spent so much of their own money on Pier 27 so they get dibs and that other ships oftentimes have to use Pier 35. Not sure if that is true or not. And... have never had a complaint about Pier 27 and we have had many about the older Pier 35. Did you happen to be right across from Coit Tower or did you look directly down at Pier 39 from the starboard side of the ship? If the latter, you were docked at Pier 35 and I feel for you.

We are sailing on the Equinox in less than a month and looking forward to it ... but after that, have 3 Princess cruises planned, two of which sail out of San Francisco. Would still like to plan another Alaskan cruise for the late summer in 2019 ...so will be on that as soon as those schedules are released. Hopefully, we'll sail together one day!!

You must have received "suite treatment" we were in AQ....yeah we got the rose and helipad invite but not much else in the way of pampering...having the maitre D in BLU or Tuscan ask how things are would have been a nice touch.. or AC working all the time, no.mildew in shower...anyhow..cruise is now in memory book...we enjoyed ourselves and that's all that counts..

It must have been the old pier...all wooden structure, wooden winding ramps....really oldish....didn,t know there was a newer one . There were other ships in port..We docked very late due to congestion which was defined as 3 ships...1 going 2 coming???? Big mess getting off the 1st nite as a result.

Our Opinion and observations. We did the Pacific Coastal Cruise on the Infinity 17-24 September of this year starting in Vancouver BC and ending in LA (San Pedro). Great cruise and weather. We were in a 2B Balcony on deck 8. Great location and very quiet neighbors. No issues with mold, rust or smell. No complaints about the food, ship or staff. Enjoyed all the entertainment and musical performers at the different lounges. We felt the CD, Louwagie (sp?) was ok but maybe with more on the job experience he will get better. But CDs don't make or break our cruises. We had the Classic BP. We had early (5:30) Select Dining. Senior Officer gathering in the Constellation lounge and the other Elite and Elite+ events were well organized and plenty of staff with trays of drinks and snacks. We only go to those events for the drinks and not the hors d'oeuvres. Great Loyalty Hostess. Always a big smile and a warm welcome back. Damn, can't remember her name. Doing the same cruise 2 September 2018 again on the Infinity. Only change to the itinerary is the 2018 cruise will end in San Diego instead of LA. This was our 3rd Canada/Pacific coastal cruise. First two with RC and this one with Celebrity. All 3 of our San Francisco port stops were at Pier 27.

I cancelled the same coastal cruise; this board had quite a few things to say about the Infinity and my dad was still recovering.

Loved the Reflection TA...We had a great time and met so many people; some we are cruising with for Greece and Italy in 2018...can’t wait! We were in a suite and had a wonderful roll call. Even those in the Reflection Suite had invited many of us for a scavenger hunt and party. I can’t say enough about all the nice and down to earth people! That is one component that really helps to make a cruise special, along with a well-run and clean ship.

Sorry your cruise was not up to par, as it is disappointing. I felt like that on the Millie and we were not in a suite. The good news is there are other ships... we are looking forward to the Edge on 12/16/2018. Celebrity needs to listen to this board more often. Time will tell, but there are some great ships out there!

San Diego will be a great place to end the Ca Coastal cruise...esp if folks can stay a few days post cruise, love that city.

From comments above seems deck 8 on Inf was better than AQ on 9...AQ has retrofitted shower doors that make air circulation poor...leading to the mildew. Our attendant did his best and we found a way to prop the doors open inward to let air flow when not in use

S Class are fresher....and we look forward to EDGE AQ class

Still no credit back on our card!

Beating this dead horse.

Never rec'd any cancellation paperwork...altho 3 reps said they would, one did send a cancellation for dining which was already cancelled,

Spoke with Cap Club . Seems they always come through. Rep gave me a cancellation # which none of the others had provided and advised refund to card was being set up for processing. Good news! She also advised that the Cruise Planners do get credit if they can save the booking.
