Staterooms and Motion

Hey!

I am traveling with my son on a cruise in less than 3 weeks on the Crown Princess and are so excited.

We usually have cabins that are mid ship. However, we saw that we were assigned a cabin at the front of the ship.

The both of us are concerned about sea sickness. We usually don't get sea sick. A little dizzy maybe but not sea sick.

Have any of you had front staterooms before?

How is the motion?

Thanks!

It will all really depend upon the conditions of the sea when you sail. It seems to have been a very active hurricane and tropical storm season so far this year....hopefully that means it is over! If you are in calm seas, you probably won't have too much trouble. If the seas are rough, though, you might want to take some precautions such as sea sickness meds, ginger tablets, seaband wristbands, etc. Just check out the weather report ahead of time and see if you might need these precautions. The front of the ship will feel more movement than midship and the upper decks, more than the lower decks. There's no way to tell at this point if the seas will be rough in three weeks from now ... not during hurricane season ... but at least you are hitting the tail end of it.

Last December, we had the family suite located Port side on the Dolphin deck. This is the first cabin near the bow. During the cruise to the the ABC Islands, seas got up to about 7 feet and the winds from the south were blowing 15-20 knots. With the ship going 22 knots, we had so much wind coming over the balcony at night that the deck chairs did their own dance around the balcony at 3 am and we had the bring them inside the cabin. Every once in a while you could hear and feel the waves hitting the bow (low boom). But the ride up front was smooth. I make it sound bad, but it did not bother us at all.
