Ketchikan or Icy Point?

We are considering two itineraries for an Alaska cruise next summer. The only difference in itinerary is one stops in Ketchikan from 6:30am until 3:00pm, and the other is Icy Strait Point from 12:00pm until 10:00pm. Any comments/suggestions on which is better and why? TIA

You'll need to look at the activities available at each port to determine which location best supports YOUR interests.

Personally, I would choose Ketchikan because there is so much to see and do; options range from expensive bear viewing tours to free walking tours, and everything in between. Again, depends on your interests.

ISP seems to be popular for whale watching tours. And there's a zipline.

Look at past trip reports to see what other travellers enjoyed. Look at the town web sites:

I agree with Mapleleaves that you need to find something that interests you in the ports in making your decision. Both offer great opportunities. We had a great whale watching trip with Glacier Winds in Icy Strait Point and enjoyed the cannery and trails near the port. We also enjoyed kayaking in Ketchikan and walking Creek Street, Married Man’s Trail and seeing the town.

One deciding factor for me would be how much time you have in Juneau, if both itineraries include Juneau. If you will be in Juneau from at least 8:00 am or earlier until 6:00 pm or later, I would recommend the Tracy Arm Fjord tour with Adventure Bound. Since Juneau and Icy Strait Point both have great whale watching opportunities, I would then choose the itinerary with ISP and do a whale watch there. If the time in Juneau would not allow the Adventure Bound Tour, then I would probably lean towards Ketchikan and do whale watching in Juneau.
