Hi everyone! Sailing on the Carnival Dream, seven days out of New Orleans December 2, 2019.

Solo, can't tell you is this My sixth or seventh (maybe more) solo cruise, lost count.

Its a combination of late 50th birthday, early Christmas and first true paid vacation since 2013.

After my last cruise in 2013 got downsized, unemployed for almost two years, went back to school after being out over 25 years, working two part time jobs to finally having a full time job again with vacation.

Enjoying the Chef table and the Steakhouse. Normally do fixed dining and been bless with excellent tablemates. But since four nights with specialty dining, doing your time. Already eyeing cruises for 2019

Good for you, I'm working PT now, taking care of my elderly father. I canceled a cruise last year for that fact. This year on Dec 3., I'll be sailing solo, first time. Also a late 50th birthday gift to myself. And SO looking forward to it. Excited enough, have 2 more planned, one in March 2019, another Jan 2020. Go out, and CELEBRATE you!!!! Have fun.

I recall all too well several uncomfortable meals spent by my wife and myself with people who were unlikable or simply loved to hear themselves talk. Donna was always very, polite and was never rude, but afterwards would ask that we be seated somewhere else next time.

As I would be sailing solo, I personally wouldn't have a problem making some excuse and getting up during the meal. I could care less what some clueless fellow passenger thinks of me or my manners. To be honest, I'd probably have my meals in the buffet or via room service rather than take the chance of suffering through an uncomfortable hour or more.

Yesterday I just got back from a solo cruise aboard the Harmony of the Seas. Had such a great time. Did the ultimate dining package where I ate each night in a specialty restaurant. I've done many solo cruises before but have to say having meals via the dining package was a wonderful experience and really takes away any awkwardness. You never are seated with others, the closest you are is a table nearby and sometimes you can get into a conversation or not get into a conversation, depending on whom is seated near you.

Below is my "Live" trip report from that solo cruise

Even when cruising with others I've still done the dining package and ate some nights with group and other nights at a specialty restaurant on my own.

So excited to be trying solo cruising! I always hate tying to find someone that wants to go on a cruise with me, so I'm going solo! Regal Princess March 31, 2019!!!

will be doing my favorite thing in my birthday, it is a sea day! For the past 8 years I have tried getting someone in my birthday cruise, so next year In doing what I want.

You will have a blast. Solo cruises are so much fun. On cruise I was just on was telling some folks that I met, one can't wait for others to be available to do something. If we are always waiting we will never do anything. Then with cruising you can't just find anyone to go on a cruise with. If its just family or a land friend, it could be fun for a bit, but it could turn into a miserable trip very quickly if they are not a regular "cruiser". Unless someone is a cruiser, you met on cruises and are not fully committed, its best to just go it alone and one will have a much better time!

Other ways is to go partially solo where you go with other groups of cruise friends, but everyone has their own rooms. This is the best of bother worlds, but finding new cruise friends and booking cruises on the same ships and times can be tons of fun.

Have a super cruise! You're in for some exciting days!

I will be taking my first solo cruise October 31, 2019 on the Sapphire Princess from Southampton to Rome. I just booked it a couple of days ago. I am a little anxious about traveling solo, but also very excited. This cruise is my retirement gift to myself. It will also tick off a few bucket list items.

I'm sure you'll have a great time. I just booked another solo cruise myself today. The only problem with booking solo is once you start going solo you may never want to take anyone with you again! clear.png?emoji-grin-1677

Truth! I’ve done 8 solo and can’t imagine having to share a room and not do everything I want all the time.

If anyone is interested I did a live solo review on the Carnival Dream last month. If you asked me at the time I probably would’ve guessed it would get 1,000 views...but it’s up over 62,000 views! I think it’s opening some people up to the idea of solo cruising.

I totally agree with your comment. It's just so much more peaceful because you have to wait on no one. I am going on Grandeur from Baltimore to Bermuda the end of October but my husband is going along this time because it is my one year anniversary of finding out I had ovarian cancer. I am now cancer-free.

So glad to hear you are cancer free! Enjoy your trip and have a wonderful time.

Last year I took my aunt on a cruise for beating cancer. She had never been on a cruise before. When she was going thru treatments I told her I would take her on a all expense paid cruise when she got the ok from her DR. She just loved the trip and told me it really helped her to have it to look forward to while going thru her treatments. She would call me after treatments and we would discuss things like where she wanted to go and so forth.

She is still cancer free and doing great.

I just booked my first solo cruise on Allure January 6, 2019. Any words of wisdom for a new to solo cruiser?

Hi, I travel solo everywhere and find that cruising is a little harder unless you are very friendly (which I am). During meals, I ask to sit at a table with others and I introduce myself. During excursions, I always seem to "buddy-up" with other females who are on excursions alone and usually see them around the ship later so there is a friendly face. The best cruise I ever took solo was a small ship (around 20 travelers) around Myanmar. Everyone got to know everyone else and it was a good group. Don't know what you like to do, but I'm not a pool person and so I spend a lot of time in the casino and that is fun for me.

Hi Mary, I have been cruising solo since 2003...…..words of wisdom? Relax and enjoy it. I find most cruisers are quite friendly and they normally have 1 major thing in common...…..they LOVE cruising:D

As for meeting others? You are going on a big ship and they offer all kinds of activities and events on board.

Participate in one/some of the choices and it can be a fun way of meeting folks. Or find a lounger and read a good book (if you want). It is one of the major parts I LOVE about solo cruising, that I can do whatever I want, when I want with no concerns about what someone else wants to do. Or you could do nothing at all...……;)

Sitting outside looking out over the wake with a nice drink...……

Hope you have a wonderful time:D

That was a very caring gesture on your part and I am so sure it helped her during some horrendous times during treatment. Kudos to you. Hope she is doing well.
