Le Verdon

We were on the Sapphire this past May for this itinerary; never found any good reports for anything to do in and around Le Verdon. Then, leaving Guernsey, the captain announced that the dock workers in Le Verdon were on strike so we would not be docking there. Instead he chose La Rochelle, where the dock area required a shuttle bus to get into town. But so worth it! Anyway, you can find tiny bits of info about Le Verdon on the Europe ports of call board here, but not much.

We were on the Sapphire in May this year with the same itinerary. We had an itinerary change owing to a port workers’ strike in Le Verdon. La Rochelle was the substitute where a free shuttle was provided ( as was the case in Bilbao). Given there was precious little information here on CC about Le Verdon, I did ask the Destination Guide if a free shuttle to Soulac sur Mer would have been provided. She said it would have been - running from 30 mins after arrival.

Le Verdon is a fairly ugly industrial port and the strikes are fairly frequent there! Bordeaux is about 2 hours away.

Most cruise lines put on a shuttle to the small seaside town of Soulac sur Mer which is only 10 to 15 minute drive depending on traffic.

It is a quaint, clean little town with a few pretty tourist gift and chocolate shops, cafes and then the more local shops eg baker etc

At the end of the shopping street there is a pretty promenade you can walk along. And enjoy the sea air.

There is a also a small church to look around as well near the shuttle drop off which is (usually) near the village green.

Not much there but enough for an enjoyable couple of hours if you get a coffee, a fresh croissant and do some people watching.
