Spirit versus Star versus Jewel

I was positive in all aspects, food, service, activities doing the Star TA last November, disappointed with the food, service, crew on th Jewel's Japan to Vancouver cruise in May. What might I expect from a Spirit 10 day cruise in January from anyone who has sailed the Spirit recently ??

I sailed on the Spirit in March 2018 for ten days and found the ship to be really dated. Our stateroom needed a makeover sooner than later. Carpet was coming up at the seems and the furniture was stained. Fixtures in our bathroom were broken or missing. We found the buffet to be more limited than that on the Jewel (sailed on the Jewel March 2017). Entertainment was lacking on our Spirit sailing.

We did find the crew to be very accommodating, but there was little they could do for the older fixtures and issues with our room. For us specialty dining was much better on the Jewel.

My husband liked the casino on the Spirit over the Jewel. The bartenders were great on both ships. I liked to hot tubs better on the Spirit, but thought the pool bar service closed a bit early That probably had more to do with our itinerary, Europe versus Panama Canal on the Jewel.

Overall I would sail on the Spirit again, I just would set my expectations a bit lower.

we were on the 33 day cruise from hell on the Star in Jan 2017.

Missed 1/2 our ports due to long standing mechanical issues.

Was great when we lost both engines at sea and had to be tugged back to Melbourne.

Was going to miss all of NZ ports so next cruise would leave on-time.

so we jumped ship.

Being polite, lets say the crew was misinformed and not lying about almost everything.

Will never set foot on the STAR again.

We were on the Star when it first broke down in Singapore. I did like the star before that, haha. It was fine. The jewel is almost the same in my mind, I have been on the Jewel three times. I am nervous about the review saying the Spirit is the worst!! I will be aboard the Spirit for 42days in a few weeks!! WHY is it the worst??

The Spirit seems to be one of those love/hate ships. We happen to be in the middle. The cabin bathrooms are very small as are the cabins and the balconies. Being it was originally designed for Asian travel could have something to do with that. I will say the ship is very pretty, but not really our choice. I think good or bad is always a very subjective thing. We happen to love the Jewel so that shows you how we all have out own ideas.
