Bliss balcony dividers

Does anyone know if the dividers between balconies are able to be opened? We have 2 cabins next to each other and would love to be able to open it. We have done so on RCCL, but not familiar with NCL's......

What do you mean "for safety reasons"? We have been on RCCL's Oasis, Allure, Harmony, Liberty - ALL have had the balcony divider opened.......

Fire safety rules.

We always travel with a group of friends and always had our balcony cabins together AND always had our balconies all opened in between. 2 years ago we went on NCL Escape and they opened our balconies. Last year did the Escape again, this time, " no, we can only open for "medical reasons". It just so happened our friends in the next cabin had a motorized scooter. I told the cabin steward that I would need access to them in case she fell and he wasn't in the cabin. "I will have to get permission from the Captain." They did open it but did site "safety" as the reason for not opening. Did not offer an explanation as to what that meant. However, knowing how many people smoke on their balconies where it is illegal to do so, maybe they look at it as a way to slow down a fire. Just guessing.

Bummer, we have connecting cabins with my daughter, hubby and two babies, I was hoping to expand our balcony :(

Different cruise lines have different ISM (International Safety Management) policies, and their insurance departments have different risk tolerances. So, some lines may allow dividers to be opened, and some don't. Some allow a fixed number as a maximum that can be opened, and a fixed number in a row that can be opened. Some lines leave it up to the Captain's risk tolerance, or the Captain has sufficient risk tolerance to quietly ignore corporate policy and allow dividers to be opened at will. Also, some cabin stewards will open dividers against company policy in order to avoid annoying their guests. I believe NCL has made it a firing offense for a crew member to open a divider without permission, and they use the ship side cameras to monitor this.

Further, there are certain dividers that should never be allowed to be opened except for maintenance, these are the ones between cabins in adjacent fire zones (on either side of one of those pesky passageway doors they close on turn around day), as opening these dividers breaches the fire boundary and risks greater spread in case of a fire.

Yes they are ABLE TO BE opened, however you are not allowed to do so.

We have a group that is all along Deck 12 aft cabins. Are you saying they will not open these balcony divider doors for us? That was all part of all of us being together along the back of the ship!!!

NCL policy is that for safety reason they will not allow them to be opened. You can ask, but company policy is that they are not to be opened.

We have a group that is all along Deck 12 aft cabins. Are you saying they will not open these balcony divider doors for us? That was all part of all of us being together along the back of the ship!!!

They will NOT open them for you.

We just got off the Getaway on deck 14 and two doors down from me the balcony door was open the entire cruise.

You can ask, the worst they can do is say no. But please don't take it out on the cabin steward if he says no, or the more likely scenario when he passes along the no from someone else.
