Baltimore: aquarium?

We are cruising on Pride from Baltimore for the 4th time in January. Every cruise we have driven down and stayed overnight and taken shuttle to ship. Have never done any "sightseeing" because we always go in the winter. I would LOVE to do Washington, DC, but figured I would just pick something local just to DO something while we are down there. Has anyone been to the aquarium? Any other recommendations for an afternoon excursion? We are NOT staying in the inner harbor area.

It's been a few years, but the Aquarium is a nice attraction. The Inner Harbor area is kind of dead in January for the most part, so it should be a good time to visit.

If the weather's decent, and you have more time, check out the Historic Ships of Baltimore (new name), which includes the USS Constellation and a number of other historic ships in the Inner Harbor.

The Inner Harbor ain't what she used to be, I'm afraid, but those are two of the better attractions.

You can have a choice of the Aquarium on one end of the Inner Harbor or take a 10 minute walk to the other end and visit the Maryland Science Center.

The third option is a 10 minute or so drive to Fort McHenry which is about 5 minutes from the cruise terminal.

The aquarium is very nice. And it is the first of the modern style aquariums.

The science center is also nice.

If you have a car, the Edgar Allen Poe house is a nice short visit.

The Baltimore Aquarium is really nice, and January weather could be bad, so an indoor-focused activity could be nice.

If you luck into a 60 degree January day (which does happen!), then the ships are really cool. But there is outdoor walking between them, so if its cold and rainy, maybe not.  On the positive side, they are saying we may have a warm winter this year 🙂
