It doesn't appear to be too difficult to obtain. However, you might want to check with your cruise line to see if they will accept it. My cruise is with Oceania, I called them, travel agent called them. They are saying NO we will not accept the e visa at this time. Others on this cruise have heard that they will accept it. I'm confused.

The website didn't work for me but I saw the address of BrazilVisaService.com and went directly to them. They are a service out of the Chicago area. They say they save you from going to Chicago. Might only be for those who need to get the visa from the Chicago area consulate.

The consulate I would use is in Washington DC. Their site has the old info but does say that they are updating the site because of something new from the end of 2017. Luckily I'm not going til early next year.

I don't know for sure but wouldn't the cruise lines have to accept the e-visa if that is what the consulate is giving out? Australia is electronic for US cruise passengers.

This worked for me yesterday.

http://www.vfsglobal.com/Brazil-eVisa/index.html

I was able to upload our photos in the correct acceptable size.

The BIO page in our passports wouldn't size properly, I called the main phone number and was told

just send me the page I will resize it and send it back to you. All done in just under an hour.

Now I wait... no rush I don't need it until November .

Thanks. As an FYI - they are a third party and charge an additional $4.xx fee. Small amount extra but they are third party.

Good ..bad or indifferent. It's the site recommended by the Brazil Consulate in Vancouver ..for Canadians in this area.

Just applied for ours via the e site. A bit of a pain getting the pictures to the right size but after first one was easy to do second one. Yes it is a bit cheaper but the last time we got Brazilian visa it was $85 each and was good for 5 years. Now it is $40 and only good for 2 years. But it is easier to obtain, last time I needed proof of income, two references, at least for Western Canada consulate.

So done, and it should take alot less time and i don't have to go to the downtown consulate to drop off passport and retrieve.

It is important that when asking if they will accept E visas, the people may think it is an actual electronic visa. With this new system they send you a pdf file you have to print out and put in your passport so it is actually a real visa.

The cruise lines have said the port authorizes will not recognize them.

Very confusing and would love to hear from anyone who has been on a cruise recently using the Evisa's

since Brazilian consulate does not offer any alternative than to apply for the tourist visa electronically I would be interested to see what the cruise lines want.

Note it is NOT an actual electronic visa. It is a tourist visa that is submitted electronically. You still get a hard copy visa that you have to put in your passport.

i do agree the naming of it is not the best

Vickie,

Do you have any hints to uploading the photos and passports? I am a little tech challenged so any help would be appreciated. I am getting passport pictures taken today since it says that is the type needed.

Thank you,

Diane

The instructions are on the Brazilian Consulate website where you apply for the evisa.

There is a tool for resizing the pictures and if the information on your passport page doesn't size correctly, send them a note.. they will resize it for you and send it back to you to attach to application.

I am in the process of final payment for our Amazon River cruise and asked the cruise line specifically if they will accept our e visa.. the current answer is YES.

It only became available in January of this year..and has taken until just recently to get the same yes answer from 2 different people.

Thank you Vickie. Two more questions, can you leave the application and return later? Once you fill everything out how long before you must upload the documents? I'm thinking I may need a DD to help me.

Hi,

I just posted my experience with the Brazilian eVisa application in another thread about Brazil visas...but I thought I'd go ahead and put it here as well. :)

I've got an upcoming cruise that starts in Rio De Janeiro, so I just submitted my application today.

I have to admit I was nervous when I first read about this - all the information I was seeing online made it sound like a much more cumbersome and expensive process, which would take months and cost about $160. But we emailed the Brazilian consulate and received the link directly from them, so I know it's not a "scam". And so far it appears to be super easy! And cheap - only $44.24!

As for the speed - I just got my application submitted today so I'm waiting for the approval. But it says it only takes up to five working days, so I'll report back as soon as I get it.

Here's the link: http://www.vfsglobal.com/Brazil-eVisa/

This page has all the info you need, including a detailed FAQ. The link to the online application form is on that page.

I had no problems uploading my passport data page or my photo. For my photo, I stood in front of a plain white background and my husband took it with my iPhone. We actually went to a Walgreens, where you can buy a passport photo -- but they won't give you the photos electronically. So we just used their background and took our own photo. Make sure your photo has no shadows, which is harder than you think...and why it worked out perfectly to do it at a place where they actually take passport photos. :)

As for my passport data page, I taped it down to a white piece of paper and took the photo with my iPhone. Again, be careful of shadows and glare - turn the overhead light off and do it in a room with natural light.

Don't worry about cropping. When you upload them, the site will force you to crop them into their template. It's really easy. Don't take too long doing this, though...if you take too much time, the whole thing times out and you have to start over.

On the application form, BE CAREFUL with dates! The date format is DD/MM/YYYY, not what we are used to in the US (MM/DD/YYYY).

You can pay with your VISA card. Note that it shows the Amex icon on the payment page, but it would not take my Amex card number. So apparently you need to use a VISA card.

I received an email immediately, with my application number. Now I'm just waiting for the approval.

Note that the eVisa is different from the Consular Visa, which previously was all that was available. The eVisa can only be used for tourism or business, whereas the Consular visa can be used for a variety of other purposes. Also, you will not get a passport stamp. You will get an email, which you have to print out to present upon boarding your flight to Brazil, or to immigration upon arriving to Brazil via cruise ship, and carry it with you the whole time you're in Brazil.

Also note that you have to use one of these browsers: Internet Explorer 10, Google Chrome 43, Firefox 38, Opera 29, Safari 9.

I'll report back once I get my eVisa approved.

Let me know if I can answer any questions. :)

Thank you so much for the detailed report! That is fantastic information! Thank you! I am very curious about how much time it takes to get your visa. We sail in January and I am trying to determine when we should apply for our visa.

Happy to help! I'm curious how long it will take as well. But I expect it will take no more than five days, because the FAQ says to contact them if more than five business days have passed and you don't have it yet. I'll be able to tell you in...five days! :)

My cruise leaves in January too. I was advised by my TA to apply for my visa asap, but I'm pretty sure she doesn't know about this new eVisa, since it's only been available since January. I read that prior to this process, obtaining a Brazilian visa could be time consuming, and required a visit to a consulate. It seems this new process has solved that problem. But if I were you I'd go ahead and apply now anyway. It's good for two years.

What ship are you on? I'll be on Crystal Symphony, Rio to Buenos Aires, Jan. 24 - Feb 3.
