St. Petersburg/Stockholm

I am just starting all my research for my July 15 cruise. Does anyone know what port Royal Caribbean docks in Stockholm? So far I was planning on coming in a day ahead and staying close to Old Town. Next day I would do Vasa Museum - can I walk from Old Town or take the boat? Also how would I get to the cruise terminal - can I get their by boat and bring my luggage - would only be a carry on .

St Petersburg - going to do the 2 day tour with SPB but I am still there an extra day - not sure what to do - do a cruise tour for shopping? Or just relax - any suggestions.

I know SPB Tours also offers 3 day tour packages. Do any of them interest you?

Why not try a Moscow tour on the 3rd day ? Several people here have done that.

If you can walk or not depends on keen you are about walking. It is walkable but going with the harbour ferry will give you some very nice views of the city.

Time wise it will probably not be a big difference but it also depends on where you are staying.

I'd just relax. The 2 day is very full on. I think you'll be glad to rest.

If it's like our cruise we only had one sea day (out of 12) so another rest day would be lovely.

I forget to say that regarding docking location, it is not possible to know this far in advance. The docking location from one time to another,

the past three years BRILLIANCE OF THE SEAS have docked at both Stadsgården and Frihamnen.

Importantly, I think RCI's ships on this itinerary are small enough to sail the archipelago of islands & dock in one of those two ports. Be on deck or balcony for the sail-in, you feel you can almost touch the trees on the islands.

Larger ships have to port at Nynashamn, on the coast & an hour from Stockholm even though some cruise lines still call it "Stockholm".

Stadsgarten is very convenient, hop-on boats right by the ship. Frihamnen not quite so convenient, but a simple bus or taxi ride to the centre.

I haven't seen any decisions yet, but Princess cruises have sent in a request for 2015 to dock with the Royal Princess in central Stockholm.

Simulations and sea trials have taken place and will take place this summer, so it's not 100% definite in any direction at the moment.

It might be so that the Royal Princess will be allowed to sail in to Stockholm but with more restrictions regarding weather conditions compared to "smaller" ships.

Thanks everyone. I think I may rest that day. Also I don't mind walking at all. I guess I don't find out till closer where they dock. I haven't decided on a hotel but have picked some and hope the next day they can keep my bags and I go the Museum before I board the ship.

I vaguely recall that some ships (Celeb Eclipse?) were just a few feet under the max length to be permitted to sail the archipelago, and some Princess ships were just a few feet too long & therefore had to berth at Nynashamn.

an individual decision is taken for each ship at each occasion The decisions will depend on several factors, such as size/length, manoeuvrability, wind strength & visibility.

This means that hypothetically, the Royal Princess might be able to enter on a certain day while the Eclipse the day before/after might not be able to enter due to lower visibility and/or stronger winds.

I have asked Ports of Stockholm regarding the Royal Princess.

Tests are still ongoing and a result/decision is expected in couple of months time.

So if the result is a positive one, Royal Princess (and I assume also Regal Princess) will be allowed into Stockholm but not until the summer of 2016 at the earliest.
