Mr and Mrs Doorschlammer

Currently on Reflection. What is it with those that slam their cabin door? Standard cabins are built as a tandem so if the person next to you slams their door they may as well be slamming yours. Nice if you are having an afternoon siesta or an early night. No need for an alarm call. Don't they get it? Totally inconsiderate and it's not rocket science. Close it quietly for gawds sake. I picked my cabin on RF to have less of an issue (no tandem door arrangement because I'm at the very end of the hall), but those that continue to slam their door as I walk down the corridor? Stoopid! Rant over:)

This has been a pet peeve of mine for many years. I wish I knew the answer.

Yes...

Sometimes you just forget that they slam ... need to hold the door as it closes.

and yes.

Agreed - some people do not mean to do it, us included. I always try to be very conscious of that, positioning my foot just so that the door does not slam and that I can close it as gently as possible. I think on every cruise, we are going to have the door slammers and no amount of wishing, hoping, or politely reminding them will help. :(

Ear plugs!

No, ear plugs don't cut it. They are fine for higher pitched noises like loud chatter, but no good for lower pitched noises like slamming doors. Trust me. I've tried. Even my white noise app on the iPad doesn't work. My friends in another cabin on this trip have the door slammers next door. I am sorry for them. It's like an Exocet missile. You know it's coming, but there's nothing you can do about it!

I am with you. I cringe if I let it slip and slam! And I always hope I don't have a door slammer beside me 😉

There is absolutely no need to slam the doors to close them. Just close it with your hand.

The only solution is to have a decent drink before returning to your room for a lie down...doesn't reduce the noise, you just care less about it!

I know, right? I always say, "Sorry neighbors!". :(

Sorry, why did you quote me? Probably in error as I was agreeing on how to close them more quietly. :p

Oh I know how you feel Phil. We had the "Doorschlammers" next to us on our Allure transatlantic. The whole cabin shook when they would just let the door go at 3am 5am you name it. Absolutely inconsiderate and rude!

Hope you get the situation resolved.

Oh, you must have had the same next door neighbors as we had on our Eclipse Holiday Cruise, a couple of years ago. Door slamming at ALL hours of the night! At 3:00 am, we asked ourselves: WHAT is still even open, at this hour? The Disco? The Casino? These same people had their "do not disturb" sign out until afternoon every day. We even heard our cabin steward quietly complaining to his assistant that they couldn't ever clean that cabin, during normal morning service hours.

Oh for heaven's sake. It's quite easy to have the door slam when the balcony door is even a crack open, or even just due to fact that the doors are very heavy and deliberately intended to automatically close decisively. Most doors on land don't do that and it is understandable that this will happen.

Also, it's very judgmental to complain that people stay up late and then sleep in late. This is everyone's vacation and many people prefer the nightlife. I see no reason whatever to get up just so the attendant can make up the room in the early morning.

Ugh [emoji37][emoji31] I feel your pain. I spent 12 days next to and across the hall from a family of door slammers that continually went back and forth to each other's cabins and left the deadbolt lock turned so they could just let the door go, slam, and fly across the hall into the other cabin and then let that one go and slam too [emoji31] all hours of the day and night. I'm generally a pretty tolerant live and let live kind of person, but this was hard to ignore. I politely spoke to the son once, and the cabin steward spoke to at least a couple of them, and on and on it went .... [emoji19]

It only takes letting the cabin door slam once, accidentally, for you to get it and then exercise caution after that. Continued slamming is rude. As are the people that leave their balcony lights on but that was our last nightmare. :roll eyes:

When we've had issues with cabins neighbors - I've tried leaving a friendly sticky note on the door. It works more often than not.

My point was: these folks slammed their door -- several times every night, by the way -- with no regard to whom it might be disturbing. But, heaven forbid that their room steward bother them before the crack of noon, in order to to his job.
