Rare crewsweeper Posted September 14, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 14, 2009 Hi....anyone have any suggestions for a good Cuban restaurant near the port of Miami? We always like to try off the beaten track local restaurants and avoid the chains and celebrity restaurants. thanks for any help. If you'll have a rental car, there are many spots west along SW 8th Street/Tamiami Trail. But they require driving to or longer taxi rides. Versailles on 8th is the most famous, very good but a bit overdone. Nearby, Ayesteraian and Islas Canarias on W27th also also very good. Out past the airport and next to the Mall of America is Casa Larios which is well worth the visit, albeit a bit far to travel by taxi. Going east over to Miami Beach, again by car or a taxi, but not as long of a ride, you have Yuca on Lincoln Road and Puerto Sagua on Collins. Of these, Puerto Sagua is the best, IMO. Very authentic and usually filled with Cuban families. And there's Larios on the Beach, a branch of Casa LArios, also on Collins but a bit further south and across from the beach. I haven't eaten there but some locals think the branches aren't up to the original's standards. There are also 2 Davids Cafes, one on Meridan and one on Collins, but these are more coffee shop type places. I'm sure locals and foodies will add their favs, here. But hope this gets you started. Try almost anything of Calle Ocho.

floridacruiser63 Posted September 18, 2009 #5 Share Posted September 18, 2009 If you have a car, try Versailles or La Carreta on 8th Street (Little Havana). Not too far from the Port of Miami.
Jade13 Posted September 18, 2009 #6 Share Posted September 18, 2009 Versailles was horrible. It was cheap, but not good. We all had chicken btw. I think its just the style of cooking - very dry. Btw, we did go next door to the Versailles bakery to get some pastries and they were good.
