Just checked in about 5 minutes after 24-hour period opened up and got A57, 58 and 59 for our flight from BUF to FLL (the A57-59 is for the Buffalo to Tampa part - we got A31, 32 and 33 for Tampa to FLL).

We're using the Early Bird Checkin on the return flight as we'll be on our cruise then on Half Moon Cay so don't want to have to worry about finding a computer and paying to checkin on the ship.

Did EB from BUF to RSW on Sept. 30th....first leg from Bflo. to Baltimore, had A23. The person who had A24, did not pay the extra $10 and the plane was only half full, so we could have sat anywhere without a problem. Second leg from Baltimore to Ft. Myers, I had A17. This was a full plane, so I'm not sure where I would have been had I checked in at the 24 hr. mark.

If you did not receive a response when you wrote to Dallas, I'd write again and be sure to include the flight number.

The FA in the middle of the AC is required (by FAA regulations) to stay in that position until all Emergency Exit Rows are filled. We have to personally watch who sits there.

Again - I'd write to SWA Headquarters and reference the flight number.

Hi Eemrald and Thanks for the reply. I didn't wish to hijack this thread, I just wanted to comment with the way an adamant unruly passenger was ignored after being addressed by the TA and how other passengers tried to get the TA to do something when it persisted. You guys are usually always great and I've never experienced this previously on SW. I know of others on the flight who have written their concern and received an apology. I wrote and was told they'd get back with me within 7 - 30 days. The "E" seats were already filled by adult passengers and instructions were completed. My point was that regardless of what boarding number one receives, there's those that will throw a wrench into the equation real quick to disrupt the process for all. Personally, instead of receiving A, B, C numbers when checking in, why can't SW just issue seating numbers upon check in? It's not like they don't know who's not a frequent flier and the "E" seats could be adjusted accordingly. It would alleviate the "but I won't sit there, or I want that, or your not sitting here" and other scenarios.

Back from Vegas, and using EBC received A22 and A23 on the return flight. We were able to secure an Exit seat to and from Vegas. It was a very full flight, both ways. On our return flight, we received our boarding pass at curb side check in.

Our return flight -- San Diego to Albuquerque -- Yesterday (10/14/09) we got off the cruise ship and headed to the airport. We did do Early Bird check-in, so we were curious to see what numbers we would get if we checked in 2 hours before the flight and printed boarding passes. No problem, we were issued A-19 and A-20.

It was worth the $10 each not having to go online on the ship and check in.

By the way, we were in row six and didn't notice any "saving" of seats in our area of the plane.

Good luck,

Kel:)

Just checked in at the 24 hour mark for our flights from Albany to FLL tomorrow morning. I had 3 of us to check in so I used my laptop and desktop computer to get us all as close as possible. First ticket has A42, second A45, and the last one has A49. While no biggie I do think the Early Bird check in is catching on as in the past our numbers have always been in the 20's when checking in at the 24 hour mark.

I did sign us up for Early Bird check in for our return flights as we will be on the cruise ship and I do not want to deal with check in etc.

October 16th, did not do EB check-in...waited until exactly 24 hr. check-in....received A49 and A39 on connecting leg....

I think the only time I'd pay the $10 EB fee again, would be flying home from a cruise. The computers on board are pretty slow, and in this case, minutes would count.

Did EBCI. Got A18 and A19 for flight tomorrow PHL to LAS:):)

That's awesome! I hope we do as well!

VIVA LAS VEGAS!! Have a fabulous time. We got back last Wednesday, stayed 4 nights.

Marie

We're at TI for 4 nights, then Mirage for 1 night in February. Can't wait! What shows did you see?

RE: EBCI...I work in Guest Services at Disney. We regularly have guests asking us to do their Southwest check-in / boarding passes at certain times. While we are in process, I usually mention the EBCI option. Most are aware of it and not willing to part with $10 for the convenience. That works for me! The fewer people who take advantage of EBCI, the better my chances.

We saw The Jersey Boys, and loved it. It was fantastic. The seating could have been more comfortable, lol. Being at the Venetian/Palazzo showroom I was surprised they were so crammed together, lol. I have stayed at TI, and prefer it over Mirage, where we stayed. The Mirage was beautiful, but it was so far to get from one place to the other. My biggest gripe with that is that you had to carry your luggage THROUGH the casino for quite a distance to get to your room. Btw, I am cruzcrzy over at travel2vegas.

I did early bird check in for my cruise from Chicago Midway to LAX and return and got A17 both ways. Probably could have done the first one but decided to just do early bird for both. It was great for the cruise return!! Didn't have to wait for computers to check in. It's great!! There are times I just can't get to a computer if I'm in a meeting or something like that so it works for me and I don't have to pay for bags on Southwest so I figure it's a wash!!!

Hi Marie,

I searched for you over here after you said "Hi", but didn't realize you had a different name. Now I get it!

We saw Jersey Boys in NYC and on tour in Tampa. We loved it, too.

I'm hoping to change our last night from Mirage to TL, but watching for a good deal as it is Friday night. Initially I thought it would be nice to try out Mirage, but don't want to move.

See you on the ocean and in the desert! Janet

Janet,

Call TI, and ask if they will match Mirage's price or do better. I bet they will. It can't hurt to ask.

All, sorry for the threadjack.

I did call...didn't work. But I'll keep trying as the date gets closer. I snagged a great deal for an upgraded room at Mirage, so it's not the end of the world. Thanks for the tip.

Now back to cruising and Southwest and EBCI. (Sorry folks!)

I just checked in for our 855am flight tomorrow and rec'd A35 & A37, we didn't do EB for this flight but we are trying it for our fight back from the cruise.

We did EB for our flight home today and we rec'd A20/A21, for us it was worth it to not have to deal with trying to use the internet on board to check in.

Thanks to everyone who keeps posting their results. I'm starting to think that in February for our flight home i might want to buy the EB.

It was worth it to us since the internet connection was very poor at times and there were times you couldn't even access the internet, one less thing to worry about on your cruise :)

Just returned yesterday from our cruise and wanted to update the info on our return flights. We did the Early Check in for $10 each and it was well worth it for us to spend the $30 not to have to deal with it at the 24 hour mark on the ship. We received boarding passes A-19, A-20, and A-21. Several people were grumbling about checking in at the 24 hour mark and getting much higher numbers and blame it on the early check in.

Did you consider getting early-bird check in for just two of you, taking aisle and window seats? I wonder if anyone would take a middle seat even if you didn't "save" it.

Did you ask what they meant by "much higher number?" What people think is "much higher" if often not really "much higher" since A1-A15 are usually reserved anyway.

I did not want to even consider only paying for one or two of us in hopes of staying together. I know that it's only a matter of time before larger groups or families realize it will save them money. Someone on our flight suggested the same thing to me as well. I have a son with special needs so I wanted him on the aisle seat across from my seat. I really hope that people don't abuse the early check in and pay for one and have several seats saved. On our return home the A1-15 were business class and no one had purchased those fares so we were actually on the plane with the first few people boarding. I took an aisle seat my husband took the middle and my son was on the aisle across from me. Right after we sat down a woman traveling alone requested the window seat next to my dh. I would have hated to have been in the position to tell her it was occupied. :o

As far as higher numbers the people we spoke to had stated they were the last of the A's. What I did notice on these flights is many people seem to prefer the front of the plane or all the way in the back. It was the middle that took awhile longer to fill.

Since we are talking Southwest here I thought I'd share an experience we had on our outbound flight from Albany to FLL. We were sitting in the rows right in front of the emergency exit row. The plane was filling quickly and a few people were scrambling for seats. I noticed one man walking from the front to the back a few times. The flight attendant put her hand on his shoulder and asked him to take a seat so they could prepare for departure. He turned to her and told her "Don't touch me B*****". I don't think she realized what he had said after the don't touch me part. Everyone was looking towards him at this point and I commented to dh that he was going to get himself thrown off the plane. Since his seat was now in the emergency exit she did the usual questioning of those sitting there to ensure they could follow out the instructions. He refused to look at her and kept mumbling under his breath. She finally got a "yes" from him and proceeded to carry on her instructions. We were already delayed in leaving due to a couple of "bird strikes" that required closer inspection before we boarded. The plane was de-iced and we backed out of the gate then stopped and just sat there. After another 10-15 mins the captain came on and said we had to go back to the gate for a quick stop but then we'd be on our way. The gate agents boarded the plane and headed right to the "loud mouth" and asked him to come with them. He's mighty ticked at this point but luckily he went without too much fuss. We later found out he had been hassling the other flight attendants over seats and very hostile. They got clearance to get him off the plane and had been stalling until they got the approval to go back to the gate. We were relieved that he wasn't on the plane. Just an interesting adventure to add to our travel memories.
