When will Carnival Cruise to Turks and Caicos??

Recommended Posts

I saw this article under cruisecritic news that the cruise terminal in T&C should be complete by Nov. Anyone heard any plans for which ships will go there?

Carnival Announces Commitment to Turks and CaicosThe islands of the Turks & Caicos, just about the only "relatively" undiscovered-by-cruise-lines destination in the Caribbean/Bahamas, will get a big boost in 2005 as Carnival Corp. announces it will build a terminal there. Since the terminal is a Carnival Corp. project, all of the company's cruise lines will, potentially, be able to call there. The facility, which will be designed to handle day visitors rather than embarkation or disembarkation turnarounds, is slated for completion in November 2005. The agreement has been signed but is still subject to legislative approval, according to a Carnival spokesman.

The Turks and Caicos, a British overseas territory, is located about 575 miles off the coast of Miami. It consists of 40 islands though only eight are inhabited. Its claims-to-fame for tourists are that it has the world's third largest reef system (and so is a fabulous destination for scuba diving and snorkeling) and is blessed with a wealth of white sand beaches. As such, this is a destination more for fans of eco-touring and beach- and water-oriented activities than it is for aficonados of glittering casinos and sophisticated shops.

While Providenciales (also known as Provo) is the main tourist center, the few cruise lines that currently include the Turks and Caicos on their itineraries, such as Radisson Seven Seas Voyager and Festival/First European, call instead at the island of Grand Turk, its historic capital. None of the Carnival Corp. lines, which range from Carnival Cruise Lines, Seabourn and P&O Princess to Holland America, Cunard and Costa, feature the Turks and Caicos on fleet schedules at the present time.

I remember reading about that right after my Inspiration cruise-which was a year ago. I t seemed like the articale said it was 2 or 3 years away-so I am guessing no more then 2 years away.

My hubby flew there back in 2001-in fact just a couple of weeks before 9-11 to scuba and snorkle. He said it was a really beautiful place and wished the cruiseships would go there.

I am not sure why they don't. I understand the dock is not big enough for a cruiseship but since that does not stop cruiseships going to Belise and St. Marten-they just tender-it looks like they could tender at Turks and Caicos also.

Cruise ships are already going there, they have to tender.

I belive there will be an Itinerary change with Carnival Liberty for the 8 day Eastern Cruises starting in Nov..but again that's just a guess.

Visted the Turks and Caicos back in July 1992. Daughter was born March of 1993. You do the math! Provo was very flat but very serene. The water was crystal clear. Saw a large group of star fish (first time ever). They even have a famous dolphin - Jojo who follows divers.

This would make a great addition.
