tikimon Posted September 29, 2009 #26 Share Posted September 29, 2009 You as a nonsmoker have every right to say something to a person smoking in a nonsmoking area even if the ships staff refuses to enforce the policy, just as a smoker pretty much will tell you about it if you are in a smoking area complaining about it. I really don't understand why we all can't seem to or atleast make an effort to coexsist so that everyone can enjoy their cruise vacation that we all had to pay for. If both sides would just give in a little bit I think that would make alot of difference instead of everyone on both sides saying it's my way or the highway. JMO Plus if we could just get the cruiselines to install a proper venilation system in the casino and piano bar that's the 2 main areas that seem to be the issue. sharecruises Posted September 29, 2009 #28 Share Posted September 29, 2009 I was just on Destiny Sept 3... the entire aft pool/hot tub area is NON smoking..and it was enforced by security the pool and hot tub are also adults only but kids were ok to be back there, but IF they jumped in pool...or were carried in etc...the security made them get out The pool bar is totally non smoking too.... it was nice the main pool was 1/2 and 1/2....smoking on one side the casino was probably the "smokiest" place
halos Posted September 29, 2009 #29 Share Posted September 29, 2009 Not arguing or agreeing. Simply stating facts. There are alot less smoking areas then there was 10, 15, 20, or 5 years ago. When is enough enough? There are less areas for smokers now simply because there are less smokers. Again, this is about money. If the majority of people smoked, there wouldn't be as many restrictions. The more smokers that quit and the less young people that pick up the habit, the more restricted the smokers will be. It's about the numbers. It's not a conspiracy.
Pegs222 Posted September 29, 2009 #30 Share Posted September 29, 2009 In a few years all the smokers will die off and all this will become a non-issue.:D It is also possible that non smokers could die because of the second hand smoke we have to endure from smokers. I am so glad that the Dream's casino is mostly smoke free. I can only hope it will go fleet wide.

Fun, Fun 44 Posted October 3, 2009 #33 Share Posted October 3, 2009 Just got off B2B on Destiny October 1, and you will be fine. MANY more non smoking areas than smoking. Casino is big and open, smoke free area not a problem. Have a great cruise! Kat

Although I think they should allow smoking in the (completely enclosed) cigar bar but you shouldn't have to walk through there for the internet (on Freedom). wanderlust402 Posted November 2, 2009 #36 Share Posted November 2, 2009 Question 2: I love to play blackjack. How bad does the smoke get at the blackjack tables and/or is there a better time (e.g. early in day) to play that generally avoids smokier situations? I would like to extend this into a related question. I understand from reading the Capers for the 9/6 sailing of the Valor that there are days when poolside blackjack is available on the Lido deck. Would this be available on the Destiny and would it be a better situation for those who would like to gamble but also wish to avoid smoke?
LemurCat Posted November 2, 2009 #37 Share Posted November 2, 2009 In a few years all the smokers will die off and all this will become a non-issue.:D We all die at some point. No one gets out of this life alive, regardless of whether or not they're tactless and rude about smokers. And I got news for you, bud. The rates of smoking, especially among young, white, middle class folks are just as high if not higher than in the 80s. Ain't it gonna suck when they all die off young and no one is left to pay your Social Security benefits. :)

Smoking should only be allowed on an open deck. Unless, of course, someone is smoking an e-cig. Then you don't get to complain about anything. It was completely smokeless and odorless. I can't imagine why cruise lines do not use them and then folks could smoke where ever they wanted to. princessofthesea Posted November 3, 2009 #42 Share Posted November 3, 2009 I think smoking on open decks and bars is fine on a ship, but I don't think they should allow in in the cabins, not fair to non-smokers who have to smell that..I have heard stories from people who went on Pride and said they could smell the smoke of the people in the cabin next to theirs due to poor venilation or whatever. I have major sinus issues and am hoping the people next door to me on my upcoming trip don't smoke in their cabin !

Just so you know for the future, RCCL doesn't allow smoking in the cabins.;) So it may be better for you if the smell is bad on the Pride. Enjoy your cruise. Enjoy your cruise. Thank you, wish I would have realized that when I first booked, and believe it or not, I just found out about the smoking in the cabins. I have cruised Royal before so I thought they were all like that, duh on me, LOL !! Hopefully I will luck out on this cruise and even if I do luck on this time, I'm thinking I will just only sail Royal or any others that don't allow it in the cabins in the future. G'ma Posted November 3, 2009 #46 Share Posted November 3, 2009 Celebrity cruise lines prohibits smoking in all inside areas including cabins and balconies. Azamara and Oceania prohibt all smoking except in ONE outdoor area. Just sayin'...... Anyone with severe health issues should avoid most mass-market cruises where smoking policies are rather liberal. No matter where you are on a Carnival ship, you will, no doubt, get a whiff of smoke now and then...and, if you have a balcony, you'll probably get more than a whiff or two. Same with RCCL, NCL. LemurCat Posted November 3, 2009 #47 Share Posted November 3, 2009 Is an "e-cig" some kind of mechanical cigarette I saw on the Valor last month? Yup. It looks like a cigarette, but it's a lithium-ion battery that heats up an patch of cotton in the tube that is doused in "smoke juice" that contains tobacco (or other flavoring) and may or may not contain nicotine. Mine is currently nicotine-free. The "smoker" essentially inhales water vapor infused with flavor and nicotine if they're using nicotine. All the tar and other chemicals are cut out. The user looks like they're smoking, except the vapor dissipates much quicker than actual smoke. That was the most interesting gadget I have seen in awhile. It was completely smokeless and odorless. Some of the flavored smoke juices have a faint smell of whatever it is they're flavored with. For example, vanilla juice smells slightly of vanilla. Pretty hard to object to that. I can't imagine why cruise lines do not use them and then folks could smoke where ever they wanted to. I think it's up to the individual smoker. I like mine, and not just because it's a cool new toy and it's a neat way to screw around with my co-workers (I'm a boundary-pusher). Other people say it doesn't have the same hit as a real cigarette. It doesn't. But at the same time, it doesn't leave your throat raw and your chest tight. I think a lot of people simply don't know they're out there and don't want to lay out the money for something they may not like.
