Thanks so much for posting Fofita...this is why I love CC...each time I am about to fall off the wagon(after going thru Valor Review withdrawl:p) someone comes along and post a great review with great pics.:D.

Totally enjoying your review and pics...keep it coming.:)

By the way...how did your friend find the caesar salad? Was it too heavy on the anchoves?

I had the caesar salad on my last cruise (Imagination) and found the salad VERY fishy :( just my personal taste though!

Loving your review!! I wish the Imagaination had more food selection, especially a burrito bar and tea time!

I loved your decorated door. It looked fantastic! I didn't see the first decorate door on my last cruise! Keep up the great work :)

On my last cruise I found it to be the same as well. I thought it may have been an off week.. but lots of anchovies seems to be the norm.:(
Joey - I am thinking that something's up with the A/C then! Hummmm... Well... we had the technician in our cabin the first night and he did something to the A/C that helped a lot.... once the tech left I proceeded to take off the vent that cover the A/C "hole"... and that helped too. But on day 2 it was still too hot for our liking so we called the Pursers desk and said I must have a fan in my room NOW. I ended up not really using the fan much after that... except for the 2nd formal night when I was blow drying my hair.

We didnt catch the "stranded Mexican citizens" incident as we were in the MDR.... by BOY we did feel the vibrations! It was like nothing I've ever experienced.
When we were on the Valor last year all the lights on our deck went out twice - once during the day and then again when it was time to disembark!
It was not fun getting ready to leave a cruise in the dark but none the less a great cruise over all! Loving your review, you are bringing back so many memories of my first cruise :D

A side note that I learned here on the CC boards...

Carnival cannot accept produce while it's at sea. It's loaded on Day 1 and that's it. The recommendation given to me was to load up on produce the first 3-4 days, then back off later in the week, especially with salads and produce that tend to age quicker. So on our 2/09 Valor cruise I loaded up on caesar salads and fruits early, then tended to go with safer foods and things like pastas and the like later in the week.

On the last day, I gave the Maitre'D a gratuity and asked for him to make us something special and fresh because we didn't want to order anything on the menu, and he actually prepared for us a 3 course Indian meal using vegetables and chicken. It was absolutely amazing.

You are a great writer and it sounds as if you and your friend had a great time. In the world we live in today it is nice to see two lovely young women traveling around having fun while acting like respectable ladies. Too often you hear of the negative with young (and older) tourists fighting cab driviers or getting so drunk they get disembarked....or worse fall of the ship..... Its nice to see there are nice girls like you two out there making their familiers proud while still having a blast.....

Guys – I’m so sorry I haven’t posted! I left you all for the weekend, but now I am back to finish what I started!

So, before I begin, some things I left out were that yesterday (Day 2) we received our Past Guest Party Invitations sans PINS! Oh well… And I also received my Platinum gift – it was the pretty “Concierge Club” picture frame… Yay!

Day 3 – Grand Cayman

Beep… BEEP… Beep… BEEP… but why!?! I just went to sleep 4 hours ago… Hummm this feels like Déjà vu! So why isn’t our room service here yet? They were late 45 minutes, but I guess everyone must have also ordered room service to save some time with the early arrival. Oh well, time to get up and ready to hit the beach! We were half-way ready when our danishes, fruit and bagels arrived. So we finished getting ready, ate our breakfast and packed some cereal boxes and bagels into zip lock baggies as we wanted to be as frugal as possible since Grand Cayman in expensive! We marched to the forward stairs and down to deck 0. There were no lines whatsoever, so we boarded a tender that had just pulled up. We had our choice of seats, so we opted to sit one behind the other on the starboard side close to the exit as this would afford us the best views to snap pictures of the ships anchored next to us (Disney Magic and Carnival Legend) and also of the Valor as we began moving…. I always love to take pictures of the ship when on a tender… it truly shows how big the ship is.

It was only 8:15 am and it was proving to be another beautiful sunny day and HOT, HOT, HOT! So after a short tender ride, and a quick picture with the ship in the background, we walked towards the exit… But wait… I don’t remember being here before. I knew that a new tender/port area had been built, but I thought it was built in the old location… nope… it was a block away. So I oriented myself through the landmarks and knew where we were. We found group of ladies offering rides to Seven Mile Beach ($4pp), other beaches ($5+ pp) and offering other tours (snorkeling, Stingrays, etc.) but the only one that had recruited people was the one going to the beach. She had us wait with another 6 people while she scouted a few more. Once she had a full van (10 people) we walked a short distance and boarded her air-conditioned van (Nice, because it was scorching hot already). After about a 7 minute ride we pulled up to the Royal Palm Resort area/parking lot and we were off.

We walked up and it was a deserted beach…. Including us, there were only 6 people there. We rented lounge chairs ($6 each) on the first row from the water and farthest from the entrance. The guy renting the chairs is a native to the island, but he grew up in the city where we currently live… what are the odds of that!?!?! We chatted with him for a bit before settling in our chairs for the next several hours.

And this is the coolest picture on the entire cruise!

This photo was not enhanced at all! I was playing with the DiCAPac pouch I bought for my Canon SD750 and submerging it in the water... and I caught a wave in the middle of snaping this picture.

After lathering ourselves up with sunblock and tanning oil we laid out to catch some more sun…. because we just wanted everyone to know we had been on vacation when we got back from the cruise! LOL After a little bit of intense sun, we just couldn’t resist and had to go for a dip. Seven MileBeach is a great beach in my opinion. The sand feels like talcum powder, the water is crystal clear and a beautiful shade of aqua. One of my favorite beaches! It’s pretty “commercialized” as it’s smack in the middle of the city, but nonetheless, it’s great for a relaxing day at the beach or to partake in parasailing, jet skiing, banana boating and snorkeling. We spent several hours at the beach and along the way met some very nice people – a newlywed couple who was on the Valor with the family, another couple from Uruguay and their friend, Mariana (BF decided he would skip on the beach time and sleep in and gamble!?). They were very nice, so we exchanged cabin numbers so we could make plans to meet up at the Paris Hot for some dancing later on in the evening….

Note: If you rent a lounge chair at SevenMileBeach and receive a “payment ticket/coupon” be sure to keep it. A different guy came around asking if we had already paid – we showed him our coupons and he went on his way to ask the people next to us.

At about Noon we began packing our things. We used the showers and restrooms at the restaurant behind us, and I bought an ice-cold bottle of water for US$2.50. Ahhhh!! Water! We said good bye to the “lounge chair” guy, then walked towards the parking lot where there were plenty of taxis lined up and ready to take you back to the port area. At this time the beach was a full house, so we were glad that we had enjoyed it since early in the morning while everyone else was elsewhere.

We boarded the van and waited in the A/C while the driver recruited more people. The seats were covered with a plastic sheet (as in bed sheets!) to prevent sandy, soaking bums to ruin the seats. We were joined by two really cool guys who were onboard the Carnival Legend and one other couple. There was a bit of traffic, so the ride back took about 12 minutes or so – not too bad. Once we arrived back at the port area we walked towards Margaritaville, and found the Tortuga Rum Cake & Liquor store building right across the street (next to where the old tender/port area used to be). Sasha and I went inside and bought a US$6 calling card (15 minutes) to call our moms. We paid $3 each, and I dialed my mom first (using the phones within the store), and then she conferenced in my aunt, Sasha’s mom. We talked to them for the whole 15 minutes and ensured them that we were doing great and that we’d call them from Cozumel to let them know we were still alive after Zip Lining and Cave Tubing. They worry too much…. But that’s why they are our moms.

NOTE: I highly recommend this store to call home if you do not want to use your cell phone. I’ve used it every time that I’ve been in Grand Cayman, so it’s very reliable. There was a woman at the store who brought one of those international calling cards to call home from each port…. It was useless! So after her mom saw us talking to our moms she asked how it worked and she told her daughter to buy a card too.

After we checked in with the moms, we went into the shopping complex where Margaritaville is located. We perused around the stores and headed into Margaritaville. We walked around for a bit, took pictures of the iguanas and with Mr. Big Black Dick and after a quick glance at my watch, Sasha and I decided to walk back. The lines weren’t that long and were moving very fast. We boarded a tender that had just pulled up, so once again we had our choice of seats. We opted for the same location – close to the exit, next to the edge for last minute pictures and AIR!

We pulled up to the ship and quickly got off the tender. We ran into John, our adopted cruise dad, as we were waiting for the elevators. We went to our cabin, dropped off our bags and headed for the Lido deck for a late lunch. We had the chicken tenders, fries, chili and hot dogs from the grill…. Then headed inside to scope out today’s buffet – we picked up some calamari, fried plantains and Jell-o and chocolate chip cookies. We found table without much effort and almost inhaled our food… boy we were hungry!

After lunch we headed back to the cabin to change out of our bathing suits and into a sun dress to attend the Past Guest Party. Sasha said she was not feeling that well, and that she wasn’t going… Uhh Oh! She’s seasick again! I told her to take the ginger pills that I had bought for her, and told her I would be right back after the party. In the meantime, she should get some rest so she is well enough to enjoy the rest of the evening. As I was about to exit, there’s a room service guy with a plate of Canapes for me! Love the Platinum Perks! J

At 5:15 pm I arrived at the Ivanhoe Theater and Gary, the cruise director and his staff were at the door collecting the invitations. I had never been to a PGP in the theater before… it was just weird! It felt too big…. Not intimate enough, hard to connect with those you are with because you are all facing forward! Also, it was the only party they were having, so everyone was there… would have been much nicer if it was split into an early sitting and late sitting. Oh well, at least there’s a party to thank us for our continued loyalty! Since I was alone, and seemed that all seats were taken, I scoped the theater to see if anyone from the Roll Call was there so I can sit with them…. And so I found Kent, sitting at the isle… but with no space for me. Bummer, but at least I found someone to talk to. This was actually a great place to be, even if I was standing – I was able to flag down the waiters as they entered the theater with their full trays. The drinks were plentiful and the appetizers were tasty. I had about 4.5 drinks in the hour the party lasted…. Ummm what!?!?! Crazy… I know… but they were pretty mild… and I can handle my liquor. At the end of the party, Gary came on stage to tell us to stop by and see the representative from the Future Cruise desk to purchase the OBC coupon thing. Then, they wrapped things up by showing a little movie clip with Jerry Cahill, Bob Dickinson, John Heald and all of Carnival’s ships… we were instructed to clap when each ship we’ve sailed on came on the screen… it was a fun, bonding sort of moment. When the lights came back on, Gary said they would be extending the party another 15 minutes…. Great! (Originally it was from 5 – 5:45 pm).

After the party, I headed back to the cabin to check on Sasha and she was asleep. I was feeling kind of tired after spending a day at the beach, and decided to join her for a power nap. I set the alarm to go off in 30 minutes so we wouldn’t sleep through dinner. Well, I snoozed and snoozed, and then gasped when it was 7:15 pm! Oh shoot, time to get in the shower. We got dressed and off we went to the Washington Dining Room – and Sasha felt great! Ginger pills to the rescue!

When we arrived at the dining room we saw our tablemates sitting right next to the Captain’s table…. What!?! So it turns out Gigi complained about the service issues with our previous waiters and the Maitre ‘D moved our table. Alright! So dinner tonight was much improved, and our meal was tasty….

Dancing Waiter

After dinner we took our nightly pictures at the different backdrops and since there was no show, we went to check out the Laser Tag ($5/person/game) at the Ivanhoe Theater. Let me clarify, the show tonight was on a reversed schedule – those that had late dining were assigned the 7 pm show and those with early dining had the 9 pm show. So we skipped it since it was a juggling act and a comedian.

We hung out for a few minutes in the Ivanhoe Theater as we watched how they ran the Laser Tag and talked to our buddy “Mega” or as we called him MJ. He received his nickname MJ because he put on a show of his own the first evening in the disco dancing like Michael Jackson – the boy has the moves!

We went to the Paris Hot to dance the night away, and were joined by Mariana whom we had met at the beach and her friends… but her boyfriend was still gambling! We had a great evening once again. After the lounge closed, we went next door to check out the Karaoke. We caught the end of the Kent’s performance… he was having a fun time up on stage. We saw some really good folks, and others not-so-much!

After the Karaoke closed, we moved on over to the Piano Bar, but stayed just a couple seconds as it was far too smokey for my liking… so off to the disco we went. We danced for a little while and called it night – we were beat and needed our rest for tomorrow’s ZIP LINING adventure!
