Destiny Thanksgiving

We'll be leaving on November, 26th (Thanksgiving day) on the Destiny. We'll be sailing to Cozumel and Key West, Fl. Was just wondering if anyone had done this cruise before, and how it was. I've sailed other cruise lines, but never Carnival. Thanks..

We just sailed on the Destiny on October 29th.

We’re headed out on RCI’s Navigator on Thanksgiving this year.

The Destiny sailing to Key West and Cozumel was OK.

We were in Key West for Fantasy Fest and in Cozumel on Halloween.

Since we’ve been to both ports countless times, we did not participate in any of the ship sponsored tours. We had plans in Key West and I had an appointment with my massage therapist in Cozumel (http://www.barefootincozumel.com/)

Be prepared for long buffet lines and rude people cutting in line “just to get one thing”. I have to believe that people become more aggressive and rude due to the circumstances of the long lines for food.

I didn’t see anyone win big in the casino despite all the time I spent there (not to mention the money).

Our cabin was spacious despite it being an inside.

One shipboard activity that I enjoyed was the movies on the lido deck in the evening while at sea. You can purchase popcorn at the lido deck bar area for $1.50 each and sit under the stars and watch a (moderately modified) first run movie. I think they remove all the cursing from the audio to keep the films “family friendly”.

The dance competition on the first night was a hoot in the dance club.

We opted for the “my time dining” which we both enjoyed. It was a luxury to go the MDR on your schedule or when you felt like it. There was never a wait for a table and the service was timely and seemed more efficient than traditional dining room service.

There are differences between Carnival and RCI – nuisances ranging from staff’s morale and the ship’s guests. I am not going to comment negatively about one or the other as both cruise lines market to mass consumer bases. I like them both and continue to enjoy both products.

Boarding and disembarkation was efficient in Miami.

I'll post more photos in another reply.

We didn’t leave Cozumel until after 10pm since some guests were still parting on the island. I was shocked that the ship waited for them! Consider the fact that the casino opened late due to the ship being late out of port and the money lost. *sigh*

Have a great Thanksgiving cruise!

Thank you very much for the review and the pics!

We have a balcony room, but I'm sure they are similar in size and decor. The last cruise(April) was with Celebrity, and we had a suite. It was nice having a butler, but we didn't use the services as much as we had thought we would.

I've heard there can be some long lines on the Destiny, but we can deal with it, I guess. The rude people are difficult to deal with, though. You don't have to leave your manners at home while on vacation, though some may not have any to leave at home...

I've been to Key West several times, but never Cozumel, so looking forward to that. Key West has always been fun. I've had a lot of fun (beer) at Hogs Breath and Capt. Tony's.

As far as the Casino, I don't play very much. When I do, it's usually slots. I'm not a big gambler.

Again, thank you for the info, pic's and taking the time.

Happy Sailing to ya...
