*Mach* Posted November 16, 2009 #226 Share Posted November 16, 2009 I must have hit something and erased part of message becuase I just saw this and it and it made no sense. It shoud read: Food.: We were pleased with Carnival food. We ate in the Crimson at anytime dining and the wait staff we had was good the first night and great the second night. One complaint was that they made 9 (I am not exaggerating here) announcements to the wait staff about getting second seating ready by 8:30. (Friday night) It was very, very annoying and I can’t believe they could not do this through a two way to a supervisor and let them handle the communications from there. It was very unprofessional. There must have been some complaints because day two there wasn’t any. Saturday night we had Michael form Indonesia and Antonio,, can’t recall where he was from, but they were great. Sandy Sandy, I agree with you, announcements of the type you mention are best passed along through their chain of command rather than being blared out on the PA. Here's what I saw from our vantage point... We had the second dining that was scheduled for 8:15 PM Friday evening. We elected to go a little late as there's normally a bit of a crowd waiting for the doors to open. We reached the atrium at about 8:35 and there was a HUGE crowd there. I'm not sure what the delay was with your dining but I can assure you there were a bunch of hungry and slightly rowdy folks outside the doors. At one point they even started chanting. That may well have prompted some of the announcements. On pretty much every cruise I've ever been on I've encountered a few rude folks, some even bordering on obnoxious but this one took the cake. You couldn't swing a dead cat without smacking someone who was complaining, dressing down a crew member or shouting profanities, even in the dining room.
Bobba22 Posted November 16, 2009 #227 Share Posted November 16, 2009 Hi All:) Mach, sounds like you guys had a great time despite the weather. Fom what I've been reading, part of the problem was the large crowds at all of the INDOOR events. Do to the weather NO ONE wanted to be outside!! At best November in NYC is not ideal for outside activity. I've lived in NY State all my life and have seen some incredibly bad weather as early as Oct. I really think that if Carnival wants to Inaugerate their New Vessel in NYC, they would be well advised to do so in May or June. It looks like a beautiful ship with a lot of Positives. I'd hate to think that it gets such a negative first impression due to weather. Late! BOB:)

Not sure if anyoen here had early dining. I wonder what time they gor that going? We had anytime dining (I keept forgetting what it's called) so we were not rushed or really waited at all, We were there about 7:45 or so. There was so much scrambling going on in the downstairs dining area and the annoucements couldn't have helped! You could hear them dropped plates and glasses, one guy droppd a whole tray of silverware. I felt like running down there to help!:D I hope they will get it smoothed out and come up with another way to commincate to their staff. I did enjoy both of my meals very much so at least it wasn't a total loss!
GlendaleCruiser Posted November 16, 2009 #230 Share Posted November 16, 2009 I am guessing that everything was late due the delayed muster drill and getting everyone back to where the were suppose to be. Not sure if anyoen here had early dining. We had early dining on the inaugural cruise from Italy, and we heard that the early dining on day one was delayed because one of the muster drills is held in the dining room. The person who told me this had their muster drill there and it seemed that SOME PEOPLE let their unruly children mess up some of the beautiful table settings already in place for early dining. I think it just snowballed from there, as the wait staff had to clear those tables of everything the little darlings had handled and reset the tables. Hopefully, someone will find a better place for this group in the drill. Can't be easy to change that, though.

CarobBean Posted November 17, 2009 #232 Share Posted November 17, 2009 Hi all - Great stuff on the Dream here. We'll be on her for an Eastern in Feb 2010. Some thoughts about people's reports: Rough Weather = Room Service requests exponentially increased; Ships officers extremely busy with hundreds of unforseen issues; Lines everywhere because there is nowhere for anyone to "escape" and because ships crew is subject to seasickness the same as passengers so they are understaffed in every region of the ship. We sailed on the Norwegian Gem in December 07 in a Nor'easter...60 to 70 knot winds, snow blowing sideways, 30 to 40 foot seas, brand new ship. Lines everywhere, people bitc*%@# about "...service, nothing to do, everything" plus NCL had promised that the New England Patriots vs. NY Jets game would be broadcast (it wasn't)...satellites often have trouble fixing a position on a wildly moving target! Still, we had a great time, even when I ventured out onto the (closed ) promenade and realized the waves were nearly even with me...five decks above the sea!! Point is: Consider the circumstances. This is not an escape clause for the line (they should learn from your experience--write a letter detailing your concerns or praises) because if you can have a terrific meal and entertain yourself in a casino or lounge during a Nor'easter, consider yourself lucky! Nickymjw1 Posted November 17, 2009 #237 Share Posted November 17, 2009 Since the balconies are extended on the aft balconies, do they have lounge chairs instead of regular chairs? I am trying to decide on whether to get an aFT or not.

crusinpsychRN Posted November 17, 2009 #242 Share Posted November 17, 2009 So am I, Laura! I can't wait to see it! I love the idea of a balcony cabin being so close to the water line but that brings up a potential problem... The seas are forecast to be pretty.... ummm... active when we sail. In bad enough conditions weather doors to the Cove balconies are locked preventing unwary passengers from getting washed overboard by an unusually large wave!! Here's hoping for benign seas... at least benign enough for my camera and I to spend some time out there!! :) Mach, your girlfriend just called me. Said she's not going to be ale to go with you and is sending me her tickets! See ya soon!;)

You will love the ship and she'll be in her element in the blue waters and skies of the Caribbean. She really is a departure for Carnival buy yet familiar for those who have sailed on the Conquest Class. I am plugging away at my review.
