Hey Mach, I just read in a post here that Carnival has done away with the future cruise certificate program (I am sure that I am messing up the name). Is this true?

 

I just read on one of the Carnival Capers that they are offering the certificate program on the Splendor. It is called Future Carnival Vacations.

Thanks for looking into this Mach. I don't have anything to hide, but given the amount of time our bags are out of our hands and sitting around, this policy makes both Jim and I very uncomfortable. I carry valuables and cash with me, but I still would be upset if anything went missing from a suitcase. I'm having visions of half outfits, or worse, missing golf clubs. I know locks won't deter a professional thief, but I do think they help with the casual thief or prankster.

 

 

I've gotta tell you that I share your concerns completely.

I've been talking with John about this. It was something that he was unaware of but it's apparently rooted in security concerns.

He'll have more for me later today.

You can try...

 

If you booked through a PVP or the website you can go to your booking a look on the left side of the page for 'Manage Booking'. There you'll find 'Modify Booking.' You'll be able to edit your dining preference.

 

If you've booked with a TA you'll have to rely on him or her to attempt to change your preference...

 

If none of the above works you can visit with the Maitre d' upon embarkation and request a change.

I agree with Mach you can try but ultimately that's all it is..........BUT to give you some encouragement I did this very thing just a few weeks ago for my Conquest cruise that's coming up in just 26 days.

I was scheduled for early dining (which was reflected on my profile) but I really prefer late dining. I called the 1-800 number and just talked to the 1st person who answered. They changed my upcoming sailing and my profile.

When I printed my edocs about a week later I was changed to late dining. I went to check my profile last weekend and it had also been changed (except for my home phone number which I can't find the majic bullet to get it updated :mad:)

Now, having said that it might be much more difficult to change to Anytime dining. I think it's very popular on some ships, but can't hurt to try.

I was told by two different Maitre d's that a given percentage of dining seatings are reserved for Your Time... beyond that the rest go to traditional dining.

The percentage seems to vary between 10 and 20...

Host Mach, I received this directly from Carnival yesterday. Hope this info helps in this discussion about not locking luggage.

 

SECURITY SCREENING AND PROHIBITED ITEMS POLICY

 

In order to maintain a safe and secure environment, Carnival prohibits certain items onboard, i.e., weapons, candles, irons, alcohol, or other dangerous goods. According to our policy, Carnival conducts security scanning of all luggage and if prohibited items are found, they will be removed and stored for safekeeping until the end of the voyage. Retained item(s) will be delivered to the guest’s stateroom on the last night of their cruise. Unsealed liquids that are prohibited will be discarded, as well as any unclaimed items left after the voyage, and no compensation will be given in either case.

 

IMPORTANT - All luggage must be unlocked before being turned over to the porters in order to avoid any inconvenience or delay in delivering the luggage to the guest’s stateroom.

For additional information, please refer to the terms and conditions located in our cruise ticket contract and related FAQs on Carnival.com.

 

This policy will now be strictly enforced effective with January 30th sailings of all of our Miami ships, with the rest of the fleet to follow shortly thereafter. We kindly request your assistance in making sure your clients are aware of this policy so they can be properly prepared once they arrive at the port for their cruise departure.

We are doing this on the Ecstasy in just over three weeks. I promise I'll document as much as I can.

I intend to beg and cry to get photos in the galley...

Ooops... I didn't add what I got from Steve early this afternoon:

The Chef's Table:





Limited to 12 guests, a 2 ½ Hr. Dining Experience . Our executive chef will meet you, you’ll tour the kitchen and have a pre-dinner cocktail party. The chef will personally escort you through the galley, where you'll be able to see the galley in full operation. No cameras or recording devices are permitted on the Galley Tour portion. Guests are reminded that they are walking through a working kitchen, which means they must be cautious, walk slowly, and watch their step. No high heels, flip flops, etc. Next is a 7 course meal prepared by our executive chef himself. Dinner includes unlimited Red and White wine, or soft drinks if guests prefer that. Each guest will also receive an 8 X 10 chef’s table group photo, and a set of Carnival Cruise Lines F & B Books. Following dinner, the executive chef will join you for dessert. The regular dinner menu will also be available if the guest prefers that. All for $75.00. For information, contact your Maitre D’.




So far we have rave reviews about this and not one negative report. The location is the library, deck 8 Fwd and just outside the Wind Star dining room in the atrium. We do this on the second port day of the 5 day cruise, and Cozumel night on the 4 day.

Wow, what a great idea for Fantasy class ships, especially since they do not have the specialty dining steakhouse, and very creative use of the library which is just outside the forward dining room on that class of ship.

 

 

Yeah... I expect it will be brilliant!

In addition to the meal there's the tour, the wine, the meal prepared by the Executive Chef a set of recipe books and a picture... That's easily worth the additional $45 over the supper club!

I'm gonna take a ton of pictures of the event.

I guess they realize the legal ramifications of this move, but I think it is more to stop the smuggling of alcohol and other items. I know when I sailed on the Carnival Pride last year, a guest got caught with 4 bottles of Vodka that were in his checked in luggage and he also broght in 2 bottles of wine in his carry-on luggage. How they found the Vodka was one was leaking outside of the suitcase. He was one unhappy guest.

This is the only thing that I could find that discusses scissors. Nothing in the ticket contract covers them.

 

 

 

It wouldn't surprise me if the security folks were misinformed. Call the 800 number and ask the same question and you often get many different answers.

 

That is why I posted the Question to Mach, to see if he could get me an answer.

I can leave them home, if I know I can get a pair for the Hair Cutting thing at our Meet and Greet

 

So Mach, do you have an Idea about the Scissors?

The wording that I found was not very clear, maybe I didn't dig deep enough.

I thought that someone answered this for you, they do not allow scissors longer then a 4 inch blade. I also know this because I have to take scissors with me when I travel for medical reason's. When you fly, just put them in your suitcase or better yet, by a pair when you get to port, then just carry them in your carry-on case.

Thanks, that is what I was looking for, 4 inch blade. Not total of Scissor

I am good to go!

I just need them to cut off our braids, for our "Children with Hair Loss" fundraiser, and touch up if needed.

Although I think we might just do a hair appt. after.

I've been watching the Dream Web Cam all week as I'm on the same itinerary 2/20/2010.

Web Cam shows The Dream at Sea right now. They should be at Costa Maya.

What happened?

It's today's date. I have been watching on and off since 7:00 am. It updates about every 15 minutes. I don't understand Greenwich time though. But all week I've been watching the web cam. I saw the sunset in Belize yesterday. Fabulous. My son was also watching. Can't tell you how excited he is. His graduation/B-Day cruise.

John Heald is asking about this now... I told him my concerns regarding Carnival's liability until the bags are on the ship. Until that time the longshoremen have possession but because Carnival is demanding the bags not be locked they'll be liable...

Web Cam time right now is 18.09.16. Traveling at 15 knots.

Just seems like they should be docked at Costa Maya by now. I'll keep looking. I'm on Eastern time. Last night sail away was about 7pm are time. 6pm ship time. And we were watching.

Well, I am leaving next weekend so I shot off an email this morning asking about the locked luggage controversy! I asked straight forward if Carnival was going to be responsible for my luggage once the porters took over it! I have a few cruises with Carnival and pointed out that this is the 1st time this has been asked of me and that in the past they have stated that you must lock your luggage since the porters are not Carnival employees and they are not responsible once we give it to them! Waiting a reply now!

I was forwarded an email by someone preparing to sail. The response from Guest Services was that Carnival does not require to have luggage unlocked...

As it's a very new policy I'd guess that they haven't been informed about it. John wasn't aware of it when I asked him.

Don't be surprised if the response to your email includes quite a bit of tap dancing...
