bobstack Posted December 14, 2009 Author #78 Share Posted December 14, 2009 Fellow Cruisers: Carnival Conquest is in the Gulf! We just cleared the east end of Galveston Island and Bolivar Peninsula a few minutes ago. How do I know? Because of GPS. Certainly this fog is preventing any visibility for us. The pilot boat is dutifully following a hundred yards behind us (see attached photo). Hope our cruisers on Voyage make it on their way, too. Thanks for all of your support and good wishes. We are filming this memorable trip! Bob and Donna from Dallas/Ft. Worth Carnival Conquest, from the Gulf of Mexico (finally!)
bobstack Posted December 14, 2009 Author #79 Share Posted December 14, 2009 Cruisers: Here's one more photo of the Pilot Boat, now heading to the front of our ship. These pilots have helped all of our vacations come true. Bob and Donna from Dallas / Ft. Worth Carnival Conquest (finally, on vacation!)

sjn911 Posted December 14, 2009 #81 Share Posted December 14, 2009 Dear all, Reading this story has made me happy and wet-eyed. This is why I like to travel on ships with great people. It makes a fun experience out of travel no matter what happens. I am trying to talk my cranky dad into at least trying an Alaskan family cruise. With everything that happens travelling..cruising offers so many different options within restrictions...you all sure have given youselves the gift of that wisdom...have a blast. sjn911 Sarah
bobstack Posted December 14, 2009 Author #82 Share Posted December 14, 2009 Cruisers: We are picking up speed, now up to 16 knots. We are about 12-13 miles into the Gulf. The sky is getting brighter, and we are feeling sooo good! Thank you for all your stories, and well wishes. We want to cruise with you all, and will look for you on the Roll Calls when we sail again. Blue waters and clear skies to y'all! Bob and Donna from Dallas/Ft. Worth Carnival Conquest, somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico! (YEAHH!)

bobstack Posted December 14, 2009 Author #88 Share Posted December 14, 2009 Hi Cruisers: Thank you, again, for your well wishes. For the last 3 hours, we have been in motion. The fog continues to varying levels, and the sun is brighter or less bright. Having the opportunity to get started created so much relief for us. How we are not trained to live with uncertainty. I can tell you I was a little surprised when we did leave, because the fog was getting denser again, and yikes, we're leaving the pier! We did feel good, because there was some view ahead and around the ship, and the pilot boat certainly was escorting us through the channel and into the Gulf. The peace finally came when I could determine we were in the Gulf. Now, does anyone know what happened to our Voyager cruisers? I hope they are also on their way to the Caribbean and a good vacation. Please post if you hear anything. Blue waters and clear sailing to you all! Bob and Donna from Dallas / Ft. jsmith2531 Posted December 14, 2009 #89 Share Posted December 14, 2009 Dang! I've been watching this for an hour or so... Had to run upstairs (at work) for a couple minutes, come back and she's gone!!! Hope everyone has a wonderful cruise! ;) Mike Ditto! I have two screens at work. My 2nd was dedicated to the webcam ALL DAY!!! I had to get up (for work ) and I come back and she is GONE! It was a love/hate moment. Loved they were FINALLY able to leave. Hated it because, AGAIN, I missed a sail away. Geez.

FERNANDEZMJ Posted December 14, 2009 #93 Share Posted December 14, 2009 It appears from the RCCL board that VOS did not make it out and will be there again tonight. They have offered 100% voucher for future cruise if anyone wants to debake by 11pm tonight. Also anyone wanting to go ashore can but must be back on board by 11pm tonight. They are hoping to leave mid morning tomorrow. There are also reports that the passanger a a bit puzzled how carnival got out as they were told the port was closed all day. Glad to here you guys made it out of port safely. Happry Cruisin.
bobstack Posted December 15, 2009 Author #94 Share Posted December 15, 2009 Hi Fellow Cruisers: Here’s the update from Carnival Conquest as of 1:45 am on Tuesday morning. We cleared the fog later in the afternoon, but the weather here still is not clear. We have mist and average seas. I see from the GPS that we are about 250 miles SE of Galveston, now heading due East, and making about 20 knots. When we pulled away from the pier at 2:15 pm on Monday, there was no PA announcement. We just started moving. A little while later, the CD announced we are heading out, with the new itinerary to be delivered to our rooms late this afternoon (it was). We felt safe because the Pilot boat was behind us, then in front of us, and all the while close to us. It was foggy as we left, and a hour or two into the Gulf, the sun was clearly visible through the fog. Then the fog returned, and the sky was not so bright. Here’s the new itinerary from our late afternoon written update: TUESDAY: At sea WEDNESDAY: Arrive Nassau at 8 pm THURSDAY: Leave Nassau at 2:30 pm FRIDAY: Arrive Key West at 8:30 am, depart at 5:00 pm SATURDAY: At sea SUNDAY: Arrive Galveston at 7:45 am Carnival has offered to post to our Sign and Sail cards a $20 pp credit for missing Freeport. In addition, as many shore excursions as possible will be moved to the new days (that will be a lot of work!). CRUISER ATMOSPHERE: As soon as we were underway, our feelings were lifted. And over dinner and during karaoke, everyone was very upbeat. Some guests at karaoke asked about Voyager, whom they hoped were able to depart on Monday as well. I did not know about VOS, until I just checked CC’s boards. I read with sadness for our fellow VOS cruisers that they have some stay-or-go-home options, because they could not depart on Monday. I’ll pass on some comments and sympathy, as best as I can, on the VOS thread. The passengers and crew need a break, given all of the changes they have been through after returning to Galveston on Sunday. I’ll post anything out of the ordinary after today. For now, we’re mentally and physically on a cruise. Our hearts are with our VOS cruisers whom I hope can make good decisions for themselves and their families whether to stay with the ship, and enjoy some vacation. Blue waters and clear skies to you all. Hope to cruise with you soon. Bob and Donna from Dallas / Ft. Worth Carnival Conquest, in the Gulf

*Mach* Posted December 15, 2009 #96 Share Posted December 15, 2009 The Voyager of the Seas is still there. Check out the webcam. http://www.galveston.com/cruisecam/ That's amazing... I wonder how many folks took the option to cancel and rebook at a later date? That has to be difficult... you take a week of vacation to do a cruise then have to schedule an additional week to REALLY do the cruise... Wow... I feel sorry for those poor folks... :(

That has to be difficult... you take a week of vacation to do a cruise then have to schedule an additional week to REALLY do the cruise... Wow... I feel sorry for those poor folks... :( I read lots were getting off. Seems to me RCL could have offered more credit to STAY on the ship to compensate for missing two days. If you stayed on the ship they are offering nothing. Nothing to stay or 100% to get off. Id have gotten off after I had dinner on the ship and come on home and used the 100% voucher for another cruise.
