LounVal Posted December 16, 2009 #1 Share Posted December 16, 2009 Surprised more people are not responding to these casino questions. Econmy must be keeping people away. We will not have as big a bank roll this next cruise. But, we will bring enough for some fun. Anyway, We're going out on the Freedom of the Seas. DW was curious if anyone had any luck at the slots. Anyone have a favorite slot of FOS??? Careful how you answer jpodds. Watch out for those typos:D
relaxandenjoy Posted December 16, 2009 #2 Share Posted December 16, 2009 Careful how you answer jpodds. Watch out for those typos:D LOL!!! Thanks for the giggle. Sorry but I only play tables so I can't help you with slots.
CodyC815 Posted December 16, 2009 #3 Share Posted December 16, 2009 I got a Royal Flush on video poker with a max bet on the Radiance, I never really got into the slots, they never really seemed to pay off. I always stuck with video poker and the BJ table. I don't think I'm going to hit the casino anymore as I believe I hit the highlight of my gambling career and it's only downhill from there :)
travelntreats Posted December 16, 2009 #4 Share Posted December 16, 2009 Play it safe with better odds by sticking to the tables. Cruise ships have -0- competition for your casino donations, so do you really think the odds on slots are in your favor more than say in Vegas ?

PudgiPoo Posted December 16, 2009 #6 Share Posted December 16, 2009 It is a wonder why I play slots. I am not a gambler, know the odds suck, hate the smoke in some casinos, etc. I love to play the slots. I sure can't say why. Maybe because its easy and the flashing lights are pretty. Anyway, I love the slots that double or triple the winnings or that do some funky stuff if you land on some strange thing. The tables are for real gamblers, I just mindlessly throw money in the stilly slots. I have won from time to time. I sure don't know if I am ahead, most likely not.:o

I will never be a real gambler and would not feel comfortable holding up a table because I'm not sure what to do. Slots are a fun way for me to contribute to their bottom line. And, yeah, I like the shiny stuff and the recordings of coins dropping endlessly...
cb at sea Posted December 16, 2009 #8 Share Posted December 16, 2009 I've never had any luck on the ship's slots....but slots are like the lottery--if you're there at the right time, bingo! I play BJ, but on ships, the dealer seldom loses....gambling/casinos on ships are NOTHING like Vegas!
Pat.bz Posted December 16, 2009 #9 Share Posted December 16, 2009 I live in a small resort town w/ an Indian casino that we go to 5 times a week (short visits, small stakes slots) and we are way ahead overall BUT I never gamle on cruise ships (no competition, product of boredom etc) because I have better things to do with my money on a ship. I've been to that casino more than a handful of times (Hon-Dah). My Grandma lives in Show Low, and I have an Aunt that lives in Lakeside. :D Never had that great of luck there, but "Win or lose, it's still fun", I say. CruiseBoy48 Posted December 17, 2009 #12 Share Posted December 17, 2009 :) We were on the Freedom last month and spent most of our free time in the casino. It is a large place with a lot of machines. The slots do not have any hot or cold patterns, and we saw no one hit a big payout on them. The first day onboard the machines were looser, then after that they were tight again, till the next to last day. I went early in the morning on that day, as it was a sea day and the machines seemed to pay out big but only on the lowest setting. If you were playing on most any machine, and you bet all the lines but only one credit per line it would pay out well. If you went up to two or three credits per line, the machine went cold, but if you went back to the single line it would pay out again. So you won money, just not a lot of money. If you went early from say 8 to 11, the closer time got to 11, the less the machine seemed to payout. After 11 it seemed hardly to hit after that and never with the level it was paying at the early hour. I only saw this on one day, because I never got there early enough and it may be coincidence. The best I did on the cruise was win 400 dollars on a quarter machine, the rest of the time, I put it all back into the slots. I played some table games and lost there too. I hope your luck is better.
cruzincurt Posted December 17, 2009 #13 Share Posted December 17, 2009 Last week the slots on the Independence were very tight and we only play them to enjoy the flashing lights and sounds full well knowing they are losers but give us a short break from the tables. I think the best (least worst) was the 5 times video poker. For a $1.25, you get 5 tries to improve your hand.
Tucker in Texas Posted December 17, 2009 #14 Share Posted December 17, 2009 Just got off the VOS trans-Atlantic. I am a BIG slot player--penny machine, one penny at a time, one line. A buck will usually keep me busy for an hour or so I like the luau machine which was right by the entrance to Schooners. Figure maybe high visibility might mean looser machine. I don't play that much, really. On this voyage, my dollar was only lasting 1/2 an hour or so but, what the heck, I am a "rich" person. I noticed people around me were playing multi lines, multi cents per lines and not doing much better than I was and running out of money a lot quicker. So I started counting how many pulls between getting the three tiki heads that gave you 15 bonus spins. First week it averaged about 50 or so. Next week it went up to 85 the beginning of the week. Then it really got tough with 100, 200, on up to 385 one time. It was not unusual to go 20 spins and not hit anything. Good thing I'm "rich." A lady next to me played her machine dumping in 20, 30 cents at a time, probably put in $60 plus and never got 3 tiki heads. After she left, and being flush with a fresh $5 bill, I bet 10 lines, one penny a line and after 28 spins, hit the tiki heads, won $20 or so, and was done. MoYerclan Posted December 17, 2009 #15 Share Posted December 17, 2009 I don't get why *anyone* plays slots!? It looks mind numbing....evidenced by the fact that everyone sitting there pushing buttons (often with a smoke hangin' out their mouths and a really dull expression on their faces) looks so bored. Where is the "game" there? I don't get it? I *do* like to play roulette though! I have learned how to play it, and I at least feel like a participant in the game rather than just a button pusher. I plot where the odds may lay, and where I can maximize my win (assuming I do win! lol) I've never left with less than I came, but I've never won a jackpot either. Ah well.. to each his own :)

Ah well.. to each his own :) So true. Roulette has a high house edge of 5.26% on a 00 wheel. Not great at all, but better than slots. I don't play it but I'm amazed that some players will put out so many split number bets that they are betting more chips than they could win if any hits. For real participation, YOU get to throw the dice in craps (1.4% pass line) or BJ (0.5%) basic strategy where you decide what to do with your cards.
