Dice Setting

Hi Everyone - I'm curious on your opinions on Dice Setting? Is this legit or a sales pitch by a few people to make extra money off curious players...? From what I have read, it's an interest theory...

Dice setting is for real and if used by an experienced precision shooter

they become my worst enemy. That is when I leave the table with my tail between my legs. But it is rare to see an experienced one. Almost always you find a poser who THINKS they are a precision shooter.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Deckhawk: Dice setting, it is legit. I am a dice setter myself. However, dice setting is one part of the shooting experience. Certain dice sets will allow for the propensity of certain numbers coming up. Some of them will be out of proportion of their numbers coming up. You must also develop your shot and you don't want the dice to roll around too much. Good luck.

Beware the rakemen who won't LET you "set" the dice....happened on Brilliance a few years back... hubby had to confront the pit boss....it wasn't pretty.

If you want to set the dice, you should be allowed to...some folks really practice their rolls!

Here is what I do, I allow the player to set the dice, however I let it be known that the dice must bounce and hit the back wall or it will be called a no roll, a good stick and box person will jump all over that the first time they see it.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO jetwet1: Question jetwet1: How could the House "jump all over," if the dice don't hit the wall once. The dice hit a dealers hand because he has his hands out over the table. The dice hits a pile of chips and the dice bounce off and doesn't hit the back wall. Dice land and bounces straight up not hitting the back wall then lands back on the table. I could see it if the shooter regularly misses hitting the back wall, but, every now and then for above reasons give me a break.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO cb at sea: If the dealers don't allow you to set the dice then pass the dice. Or better yet, don't play. If people stay away because the House determines they will change the rules then they would have to allow people to set the dice. Last month I was on the Dream and a dealer didn't want people to tap the dice against the table. "Why, will it cause the ship to sink into the water like the Titantic"?

WOW! Someone needs to pour ice cold water on Casino Player! LOL!

Cool down before you pop a blood vessel, man. hahaha

Craps dealers DESPISE dice setting, period, as well as other players. Not only the don't players, but many right bettors get annoyed with a player screwing around with the dice. It takes up time and slows the game down considerably. I have on occasion called the pit poss over to tell them some clown here is taking too long to shoot the dice. They watch them and if they agree they tell the boxman to light a fire under the players butt. There is nothing more annoying than someone taking time to set the dice and interrupting the flow of the game. I applaud jetwet for cracking down on this.

Don't let me get started on the idiots that blow on the dice before they shoot! :p

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Yo Eleven: I have not seen someone DESPISE the way I set the dice before I shoot. Although on one cruise when the crew of the Miracle wanted to mess with the way I was shooting other players threatened to leave the table. They stopped messing with me after that. I don't care about time it takes to set and throw the dice. You have a train to catch? Are the tables closing anytime soon? Aren't we on a cruise to have a good time? Why worry about how long it takes to set the dice? Only one casino gave me a hard time about that and I told them I was taking my business elsewhere. Others I'm friendly with don't go there anymore either.

Idiots that blow on the dice. I've been told that is not allowed in a casino. However, I've seen some do it and certain casinos allow it. So if the casino allows people to blow on the dice, then, setting the dice is takes even less time than blowing on the dice. Besides, to blow on the dice you must take them off the table. I and many other dice setters don't take the dice off the table.

Casino Player, I didn't say jump all over the player, so please don't miss quote me, I said

a good stick and box person will jump all over that the first time they see it.

Here is the reason, the casino wants a random outcome, setting the dice, well ok fine, rock n roll, but they want that bounce of the back wall to make it random, sure a short roll every now and again is going to happen, but combine it with setting the dice and people will start to look.

As you state in your next post, it's the houses table, they set the rules, you want to set the rules open your own casino.

Just out of interest, do you understand why the don't want the dice being tapped on the table ?

On taking time to set, I have had complaints about it, but it was rare, normally some idiot taking 2-3 minutes to get it just the way he wants, betting $5 on the line, while we have a guy betting thousands waiting for them to shot.

It was on one of these occasions that I used my infamous "Everyone get's treated the same depending on how much they play" line :D

jetwet hit the nail on the head when he talked about the creeps that take 2-3 minutes to set dice with 5 dollars on the pass line. This is exactly the type of player I am speaking about. Do you fall in this category as some folks threatened to leave your table when you were the shooter? LOL!

Oh-now go do your homework and tell us why the casino doesn't like folks to bang the dice on the table? See you back here. :D

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO jetwet1: Well, at least you realize that a short roll will occur every now and then. Sometimes even twice in a row if the dealer sticks his hand out attempting to block your roll.

By the way, the Don't Pass bettors weren't complaining about the guy tapping the dice on the table, just the dealers.

And one more thing, I am not a run of the mill $5 player. Those are a dime a dozen. I don't get that much grief from dealers as much as I used to. I guess my putting dealers on the line with me has them rooting for me. One time I had dealers openly cheering for me. I haven't seen those dealers again.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Yo Eleven: You have seemed to miss something in the translation. First, it takes me a few moments to set the dice. However, I don't have $5 on the Pass Line.

Second, the players threatned to leave the table because the dealers were trying to give me greif while I was shooting. While I was in the middle of a one-hour roll. Made four points and a whole lot of numbers in between. I was making money, the other players were making money, and even the dealers were making money since at some point I put them on the line with me. With full odds.

Most players I see don't bang the dice on the table, they tap the dice against the table gently. There are a few that do bang the dice.

Most good setters don't take long at all to set dice. It is like a baseball pitcher, after doing it 1000 times you dont need to take out the manual to get a fastball grip. Most setters can grab the dice and set them at about the same speed as a superstitious gambler can wiggle his ears twice, shift his weight to his right foot, blind once, and then throw.

Box men will however try and mess with a setter by making comments right on release or doing other odd things you wouldn't expect. Also a box man will call a no throw much more often against a setter then against your average joe.

How do you set the dice?

I just started learning craps this past July. Is there a strategy to set the dice and how? Would you please educate me? I am a very fast learner.

I am hooked on craps and will be on the Conquest this coming Feb, 2010.

Thank You.

Teddy.

Bang, tap, scratch, rub, etc, whatever, who cares......

Point being, tell us why the dealers don't like when someone "taps" the dice. Stop dodging the question Wyatt Earp! :p

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO grod19: Sometimes it takes a while. Other times dealers slide the dice over preset on the numbers I'm using for that roll.

In the past Box Men haven't made rude comments most of the time. It usually is the dealers. Box Men usually watch quietly. I've only had one no roll called against one of my rolls except when the dice left the table.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Yo Eleven: Wyatt Earp? I hated the Earps. They were supposed to be law enforcement officials and conducted themselves more like outlaws.

Who cares why the House doesn't like the dice to be tapped. If the shooter wants to do it then do it. I know dealers like to take shooters out of their comfort zone.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Trnkk: The strategy to setting the dice is so a shooter makes other numbers, other than a seven, so players including the shooter could win money at the craps table. You want to delay the seven from showing roughly once every six times to a little more without having a seven coming up.

You first need to obtain a pair, or more, of dice of the variety they use in casinos. Then you should practice setting them. I've gotten faster at it. Then you have to practice shooting the dice as if you are at a craps table.

Thanks CP, But do you set the dice on top of each other or side by side, and what numbers you set the two dice to show up before you throw? Let's say if you want forty four (hard eight) to be rolled what number do you set the dice up which will probably get more chances of fouty four to be rolled? There are more to study I am sure. Thanks again. Teddy
