downundermatt Posted December 26, 2009 #1 Share Posted December 26, 2009 We have around 8 hours in Montevideo and want to visit Punte Del Este. Other than the ships tour, has anyone any recommendations ? Would a cab be a safe bet (assuming its a four hour return trip). Perhaps a private tourguide or tour may be a better alternative. Thanks for your help

Would a cab be a safe bet (assuming its a four hour return trip). Perhaps a private tourguide or tour may be a better alternative. Thanks for your help Why Punta del Este? For the casinos? The resorts? You won't have all that much time. It's nearly 100 miles from Montevideo, if I'm not mistaken. It does apparently have some colonial architecture, but you can find that in Montevideo. I didn't find Montevideo as intereting as Buenos Aires, but it had enough to fill up the time you'll have before needing to get back on the ship. You could easily arrange a day tour of Montevideo if you don't want to walk around on your own. It's sort of an older, smaller, laid-back version of Buenos Aires. Good dining and shopping. Uruguay has some good wine. Read up on the sinking of the German battleship Graf Spee just off of Monevideo (I think there's a monument somewhere). alexandra cruiser Posted April 29, 2010 #5 Share Posted April 29, 2010 but only went for 3 hr tour, just of city, and some surrounding area,,chose not to go farther just due to fact of distance and fear we wouldn t get back to ship in time,,,remember, if on your own, not ship s tour, they WILL leave no matter what.....plus, thus that went on ships tour there felt it was more time in bus, than the visit,,so its a personal decision...but still nice area to see no matter what.....;)
