egh170 Posted January 4, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 4, 2010 We are sailing the eastern intinerary on the Dream in October. The first stop is Nassau. Will we be required to report to immigration prior to disembarking in St. Thomas. Been there done it before but don't remember. I can blame it on old age. kasil Posted January 4, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 4, 2010 In Jan. 2008, I cruised to Samana before going to St. Thomas and we had to go through immigration before anyone could leave the ship. All we had to do was show our passports to the official and they gave us a slip of paper stating that we had cleared immigration. It took less than 20 minutes. There was a separate line for non-US citizens, so I don't know how it went for them. Have a great trip!
Rowan555 Posted January 4, 2010 #3 Share Posted January 4, 2010 Is a passport required for St. Thomas, or can you just show your birth certificate?
MamaParrotHead Posted January 4, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 4, 2010 I asked this recently and was told that there had been some new regulations in the past few years and it was no longer necessary. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1109683&highlight=
Bermuda C Posted January 4, 2010 #5 Share Posted January 4, 2010 We did the same eastern itenerary last January (2009). We DID NOT have to do any immigration before getting off in St. Thomas. It was the same as in the other ports (Nassau and St. Maarten). Hopefully that helps.
vacruizer Posted January 4, 2010 #6 Share Posted January 4, 2010 It's no longer required. Just like any other port now. We had to go through it in 2008 on the Liberty, but not in January 2009 on the Glory. Both times we had visited a foreign port first - we were told by the cruise staff that it was no longer required as of 2009.
