Jo and Rob Posted January 17, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 17, 2010 On land holidays we tend to wear Crocs to the pool and on trips. Any dos and don'ts that we ought to be aware of as first time cruisers?
Colo Cruiser Posted January 17, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 17, 2010 Some wear Geekenstocks.
Rare Coral Posted January 17, 2010 #3 Share Posted January 17, 2010 Crocs and flip flops are fine.
Rare MrSchwump Posted January 17, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 17, 2010 You'll need to wear something as the decks can get HOT! Plan on some kind of easy on/off shoes.
Duck Duck Cruise Posted January 17, 2010 #5 Share Posted January 17, 2010 Some wear Geekenstocks. LOVE THIS....... Hey!!!!!!! We resemble that remark and are proud to be from San Francisco (please don't call it Frisco) in the 60's. Have never heard them called that before but it is very accurate as both of us sit here with a laptop each in a wireless household! To the Original Poster.........No rules except on formal night! (trust me you don't want to go there as you will get slammed with tons of opinions lol), no bathing suits except in pool areas, just common sense stuff. Wear what feels good to you. And by all means enjoy your hard earned holiday! Lin
paul929207 Posted January 17, 2010 #6 Share Posted January 17, 2010 For excursions, it depends on what you are doing. A beach trip would be flip flops and similar. If you will be doing a lots of walking or walking in wet areas, better treads would be appropriate.
1 HappyCruiser Posted January 17, 2010 #7 Share Posted January 17, 2010 I suppose you could even wear Crocks on a formal night in the DR. After all they are shoes.

1 HappyCruiser Posted January 17, 2010 #10 Share Posted January 17, 2010 You would have to epoxy the holes. Would that be to keep the foreign objects out or keep the smell in?
LV2KruzCats Posted January 17, 2010 #11 Share Posted January 17, 2010 I wear my Crocs all the time day and night, except on Formal nights. :D:D
cubfan63 Posted January 17, 2010 #12 Share Posted January 17, 2010 Last May on my Alaska Star Princess cruise, there was guy wearing his flip-flop sandals on the 2nd formal night. His wife insisted he wear his suit (she wanted family portraits), but she didn't stipulate his footwear.
cb at sea Posted January 17, 2010 #13 Share Posted January 17, 2010 Whatever you would wear to any pool, you may wear on the ship. The deck gets HOT, HOT, HOT in the sun, so NEVER go barefoot!!!!!
singwithjoy Posted January 17, 2010 #14 Share Posted January 17, 2010 Princess Cays the sand and ocean is very very rocky. Use more than flip flops. A good full wet beach shoes for in and out of the water is need. River shoes are good. Althletic tennis shoes for shore excursions.
diane.in.ny Posted January 17, 2010 #15 Share Posted January 17, 2010 I wear nice flip flops around the ship and TEVA sandels on shore excursions
uppitycats Posted January 17, 2010 #16 Share Posted January 17, 2010 What do I wear on my feet? Shoes?!! I do try to wear shoes with non-slip soles, as the decks can get slippery from time to time. But otherwise, I don't think it matters much. Some "dress codes" do stipulate no flip-flops in the dining room at dinner, but other than that, pretty much whatever is comfortable for you. scmexico Posted January 17, 2010 #17 Share Posted January 17, 2010 I wear crocs all day everyday. On a cruise I wear them everywhere including formal nights and Chef's Table.
psyfi Posted January 17, 2010 #18 Share Posted January 17, 2010 crocs are fine, just make sure it is a decent pair, the ones I was wearing had pretty worn tread on the heel and I slipped on the wet deck. Totally caught me off guard as I often wear them boating and never had a problem. so I bought a new pair and I'm good to go :)
satxdiver Posted January 17, 2010 #19 Share Posted January 17, 2010 I wear tevas on the ship most of the time. Nice pair of leather sandals for all dinners and hiking shoes for shore excursions. From the discussion here, maybe I should just wear my tevas to dinner as well and leave the leather sandals home :D
Treven Posted January 17, 2010 #20 Share Posted January 17, 2010 I take all 6 pairs of Crocs, :D all different colors (I really should get a pair of Navy crocs to take with me), with me plus my two pairs of sandals. I do wear my sandals on the formal nights, with the appropriate color of socks; I'm diabetic so my ankles tend to swell up  by late afternoon - evening. I don't take closed toe shoes with me on cruises.
kennetro Posted January 18, 2010 #21 Share Posted January 18, 2010 Crocks are great, but I would suggest being sensible! We were stupid enough to climb Mt. Vesuvius while wearing crocks. Do you know how quickly volcanic ash (rocks) can turn your feet into something resembling ground beef? But we looked "fashionable" and the "view" was spectacular! LOL
shepp Posted January 18, 2010 #22 Share Posted January 18, 2010 Crocs Islanders are, to me, near-perfect cruise shoes. Protective enough to hike around in, great to wear in the wet. The "near" though is because, as another poster pointed out, the Croslite is really slippery on wet decks.
cruisingready Posted January 18, 2010 #23 Share Posted January 18, 2010 I love my crocs but have not taken them on a cruise(don't know why!!!!) I usually just wear Nike,or other rubber sandals around pool and depends on what we do off shore usually good pair of tennis shoes. Flip flops during the day around and about on the ship. A bit dressier shoes for the dining rooms.
Rebel Posted January 18, 2010 #24 Share Posted January 18, 2010 I take four pairs of shoes on every cruise: Sandals...................My sandal of choice is made by Merrill Black dress shoes.....For formal dress nights. Mid-heeled sling backs Walking shoes..........For shore excursions. Mine are by New Balance Neutral colored.........For smart casual dress nights. Light beige, low wedge slides casual dress shoes
Debsta Posted January 19, 2010 #25 Share Posted January 19, 2010 Keens :D No slip, airy and you don't kick your toesies :p Like a few posters have said the decks can get slippery if you have no tread on your undersoles. Tried, tested and true that is! Now it's just Keens :D I put sparkles on them for formal night (joking)
