booking a balcony - not choosing room though...

On almost every ship, the cabins are not "public" areas.....they are separate from any of the open public spaces....

When you book a GTY, you are getting AT LEAST the catagory you want, at a price lower than you would normally pay.

If you have areas that you would rather not be in, then you need to forgo the savings, and book the specific cabin that will make you happy.

Booked on Carnival's Valor. Their Lido deck is one of the top decks of the ship, half of which are cabin's and the other half open space to walk around, which is what I meant by public spaces. Was just curious if some people had gone with the Gty option and ended up in such a situation and if it was not enjoyable. For those that have taken Carnival, I keep hearing how you want to be 2 levels below the Lido deck so you will have cabin's above and below and so to help drown out noise from people walking around and being loud, just haven't heard anyone talk about the opposite and being closer to those places.

The front of the Lido deck is considered prime. Its quiet, fewer cabins and close to the pool and buffet. You just dont want to be BELOW the pool, because you would hear scrapping, but on the Lido deck is a great location. Unless you are right by the pool, you dont hear it, but it is possible you could hear it out on your balcony.

Also, the cabin areas on Lido are separated by doors from the public areas. You pretty much have to be headed to one of those rooms to end up there.

To answer the original question, yes, Balcony GTY bookings could be assigned to one of those rooms. But as Firefly noted, they are prime rooms, and not noisy.

If noise is your concern, and it means a lot to you, you really need to book a specific room that you have chosen with great thought, not a GTY. Look at the deck plans for every single balcony room. You could be in ANY ONE of them. If that bothers you spend the money.
