annfi Posted February 2, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 2, 2010 We're getting close, very close to booking "Magnificent Europe" for September but since it is our first river cruise I am still trying to figure things out and convince hubby! Questions regarding dinner, is there just one seating? If so, does everyone need to show up at the dining room at a specific time? What time? I have read that tables for 2 are probably not possible and have read some postings that large tables are hard to come by. Are they mostly tables for 4-6? We are happy to share. Do you just walk in and find a table or does a maitre'd seat you and decide where you should sit? Thanks for the info!
letsgo39 Posted February 2, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 2, 2010 The dinner is served after the CD meeting and happy hour which is about 7:00 P.M. It is possible to get a table for 2 but on the Avalon Tranquility there was only about 4 of those tables. The tables are mostly for 4 or 6. The tables for 6 were round. The other tables were against a wall with the booth type seats on 1 side and chairs on the other. These tables could be moved apart or together but most of the time they were just left the way they were..The large tables were not at all hard to find. We never had any problem finding a place to sit.Everybody was very friendly and welcoming. All you do is walk into the dining room and seat yourself. It was really fun to sit with different people to get to know them.At dinner we usually sat with some friends we were traveling with and after a few days we became friends with a lovely couple from Australia who we are still in touch with.At breakfast and lunch we moved around in order to meet others. We had Aussies,Kiwis,Canadians,Brits and Americans on our cruise and I loved spending time with and getting to know people from other countries. After dinner people moved to the lounge for the evening entertainment or to the sun deck to relax. We usually moved to the sun deck and took our last glass of wine with us. We also had wine that we bought on shore in our cabin that we took to the sun deck. The alcohol that you buy on shore can be consumed on the sun deck and your cabin. annfi Posted February 2, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted February 2, 2010 Thank you letsgo39. That is exactly the information I was hoping for. I think it is time for me to make this "dream" into a "reality!" :)
