New to cruising. We have a snorkel trip booked with a private charter on St Maarten. Should I carry my passports with me or leave them on the ship? Hate to have something happen to them while ashore. Thanks for any help..

I have a small laminated copy of my passport that I take ashore with me. Otherwise, I keep my passport locked in my safe. You will need picture ID to get back onto the pier in St. Maarten. Your driver's license will work for that.

You'll be fine--no need to carry your passport. Your private guide would be out of business if he made folks late back to the ship!

Don't know; never tried it. I just keep it with me for my peace of mind. I think that it would help me with the conselate if I got stuck on the island. Probably wouldn't, but it makes me feel better. Also, I have it laminated because it goes into my waterwallet and sometimes things get wet in there.
