We brought our 10-inch notebook with us and used in the cabin with no problems. When you start your Internet browser the first time, you will be prompted for a login--a combination of your name and cabin number, already assigned. Then you choose your plan as stated in the previous post. Be aware that transmission is slow because it goes thru the ship's satellite connections. You don't want to stay connected for long--do what you need to do and get off. We used about 6-7 minutes each time we logged in--once each morning and once each evening, checked email, responded to only those that were necessary, and logged out. For our 5-day cruise on Ecstasy, the 60-minute package was just right for us. If you sign up the first day, you get 70 minutes for the price of 60. Good Luck. Bon Voyage!

Thank you for your help. That answered my question. That's exactly what we'll be doing, bringing a small notebook. DH feels it's very important to be able to keep in touch with son. The first time we've gone on a trip without him. He's 11 and staying with my folks. I know he'll be fine. I'm not sure DH will be :D.

Go ask the crew where they connect while in port.

They will know the best wireless spots and most likey they will be free or much cheaper than the cruise ships minute rates.

These hot spots normally are in or near the terminal. Just look where the ships crew is hanging around, typing away and speaking into their laptops camera.
