MKMC Posted February 13, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 13, 2010 We will be on the May 14 Maasdam cruise. Will we be able to buy onboard a bottle of Scotch to consume in our cabin?
kakalina Posted February 13, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 13, 2010 Yes, you will. If you so choose you can pre order this on HAL's website and pre pay so it will be waiting for you in your cabin.
jtl513 Posted February 14, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 14, 2010 But note that this not from the duty-free shop. Anything purchased there will be held until the end of the cruise.

bcirish Posted February 15, 2010 #6 Share Posted February 15, 2010 check and see what they offer online at the HAL site - someone mentioned that you do not have to pay the service fee if you order online. Petronillus Posted February 15, 2010 #7 Share Posted February 15, 2010 I'm a whisky drinker. (For the uninitiated, without the "e" whisky refers to scotch.) I'm not a purist, so while I appreciate single malts, my ordinary drink of choice (i.e., when I'm buying) is a blend. On my last cruise (first with HAL, Zaandam to Alaska), I ordered Chivas Regal, at a premium price, for the first two days, until I had a flash of inspiration, to inquire what scotch was in "the well," i.e., what they serve when you order just a generic scotch. The charming young lady in the Crow's Nest who became my favorite server responded with Teacher's. Teacher's is a very respectable blended scotch whisky. After that, it was all I ordered, and as a result had a much sweeter tally at the end, with no sacrifice in quality or enjoyment. Now, my question is: why isn't Teacher's listed among the scotch whiskies available for on-line pre-order? I'd love to have a wee bottle waiting for me when we embark next month. I'm starting to wonder if I'll be able to order it for in-cabin delivery after we're underway. Can anyone on this board enlighten me: is the choice of "well" drinks made cruiseline-wide, or is it up to the beverage manager on each ship? Krazy Kruizers Posted February 15, 2010 #8 Share Posted February 15, 2010 check and see what they offer online at the HAL site - someone mentioned that you do not have to pay the service fee if you order online. We always bring a case of wine with us to drink in the room Whether you order on-line, via phone or once on the ship -- you still pay the 15% gratuity. The "on-line" prices already have the 15% gratuity built into the prices.
Krazy Kruizers Posted February 15, 2010 #9 Share Posted February 15, 2010 Looks like I am going to have to update my list. Stoli's is no longer for sale via by phone or once on board the ship for cabin consumption by the bottle. But you can still order a cocktail of Stoli's in any bar, lounge or dining room. klemi Posted February 17, 2010 #10 Share Posted February 17, 2010 Is Michelob Ultra available on HAL? klemi
m steve Posted February 17, 2010 #11 Share Posted February 17, 2010 after looking at the prices for on board purchases you might find it worthwhile stopping at Total Wine a few blocks from the pier in your cab and buy a bottle or 2 and stick it in your checked bags. You can pre order and just run in and pick it up. totalwine.com. HAL doesn't search every bag.
