Rocket4Oh Posted February 23, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 23, 2010 Our ship makes a stop at the town of Nafplio - a quick jaunt to Epidaurus and Mycenae. Does anyone know whether ships will dock at the town's pierage or will they anchor out and tender passengers to the pier?
Wendy The Wanderer Posted February 23, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 23, 2010 When I was there in 2004 they were tendered, not docked. Who knows if they've upgraded the port since then, but I would doubt it. Lovely town, Napflion.
maryann ns Posted February 24, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 24, 2010 They tender even for smaller cruise ships. It is a great little town, and we loved Mycenae and Epidaurus.
TriMomma Posted April 20, 2010 #4 Share Posted April 20, 2010 I will be on the NCL Gem that departs Venice May 15th. They itinerary only says we will be in Nafplio from 7:00 am-1:00 pm. When you factor in the time for tendering....what do you recommend in a short period of time?
maryann ns Posted April 21, 2010 #5 Share Posted April 21, 2010 If you get right off the ship and have a rental car waiting (with GPS) you could make quick trips to Mycenae and Epidaurus. Or you could enjoy a leisurely walk around a lovely town. Rich Steves has a good walking tour which we did last fall. There are lots of little shops. You can also take a taxi to visit the castle above the town.
