Insurance for "older" folks

Advice please.

Scenario: 2 cruisers, one age 80 and the other age 72.

Total cruise price is $3100 -14 day cruise

Celebrity insurance would cost $236

Third party insurance price starts at about 15% of the fare and goes up.

Delimma---how good is the Celebrity insurance for the difference in price?

Thanks!

I believe any insurance purchased through a cruise line covers only the cruise and travel to and from. Check that. We are in about the same situation as you describe. I used to buy HTH insurance, which covered pre-existing conditions if you bought insurance within 24 hours of your final cruise payment. However, they have now priced policies out of sight. CSA has the same provision, but recently I could not find a policy reasonably priced. I then bought a Travelex policy covering $3000 for about $360, plus $39 for extra medical. They have a 60 day pre-existing condition period. Some have a 120 day time.

Note that you can buy for $o trip cancellation and still obtain medical coverage.

If there is no change in prescriptions, either up or down in strength, pre-existing will not damage the policy.

Insuremytrip does have someone who will act in your behalf, if there is a problem.. Also,I checked BBB and found that Travelex have almost no complaints, as compared to others which did.

Good luck.

We have purchased the Celebrity insurance and hope not to have to use it. For the difference in price it sounds like we would get adequate coverage. This may be the way we have to go in the future.

We have used Travelex for many cruises because they are primary and have good coverage, however, we are priced out of that market now.
