From Dallas area to New Orleans...

which route would you take? We are going on the Triumph in June and I am not sure if we should take I45 to I10 and over to NO or Shreveport down.

If I were going to drive I'd go Shreveport then down, but Southwest has getaway fares for $84 each way in May and maybe even cheaper in June.

I always go down a day early because I wouldn't want to get up and hit the road no later than 5am to get there by 1ish, and that's just too late to be getting on the ship, plus being worn out by the time I got there and stressed out that there wouldn't be any car problems along the way.

Thanks for you help everyone. I must have calculated the miles wrong, it was almost a hundred miles further going 45 to 10 to NO. My husband is just concerned about the Houston traffic (thinks that could be a real hold up).

You dont hit 49 until you get past Sheveport ... so you go East for a while until you are out of Texas. That way you miss Houston entirely.

True, but when we do it, we go I-20 to the inner loop expressway (marked as Hwy 3131) which you hit before you get into Shreveport. Take it south and you save a lot of time and cut some miles out getting to I-49.

Actully when you get to Shreveport you take the 3131 Loop south to I49. You will miss downtown Shreveport that way.

Thats probably what Iv taken, not sure. I just followed the signs to I49 when I go thru.

I was just more trying to say Im sure I dont go thru Houston when I drive that way.

True, it's about 10 miles before you hit the casinos. You really don't want to get lost in the outskirts of New Orleans though, just follow the signs for the Quarter. Everything is easy to find once you make it there.
