gliles Posted March 13, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 13, 2010 How come there's not much about the Sun on here? Can anyone tell me the best things about her? We'll have 9 sea days which we are thrilled about but I want to know how to entertain myself, I assume the pool will be too cold in October and there's only so much casino action we can afford, we don't ever win! Don Haynes Posted March 13, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 13, 2010 Not many of us can afford to fly to South America. We can afford the cruise, not the flight. We have read more about her when she was doing Baltic cruises. I suspect we will read more about her with her upcoming Baltic cruises. When the Crown was doing the South American cruises she almost fell off these forums as well... Everyone I know would love to do a South American cruise, those air flights are like sticker shock at the new car dealerships.
STARFISH*4 Posted March 13, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 13, 2010 i know that the SUN is the smaller of the NCL fleet, that she was the one that introduced FREESTYLE and that there is NO BLUE LAGOON:(...but am ANXIOUS to SAIL her...LOVE her SUN motif:) my fren is sailing her in April so will be AWAITING her "review";)
bakerintn Posted March 13, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 13, 2010 A related problem is that the CC search function won't search with just 3 letters....so searchs for threads about the Sun or the Sky don't work.
johnql Posted March 13, 2010 #5 Share Posted March 13, 2010 she was the one that introduced FREESTYLE Is this true? Honest question - it might be accurate but it might not. All I know is that I sailed on the Sea in 2001 shortly after Freestyle was introduced. I was under the impression that Freestyle was introduced fleetwide but I could be wrong. It certainly could have been rolled out gradually over several months, with the Sun being the first. Does anyone have the historical facts about the introduction of Freestyle? LJH1 Posted March 13, 2010 #7 Share Posted March 13, 2010 We were on the Sun 11/2008 19 days South America. It was our first time on the Sun we had an aft cabin which was great except we constantly had a soot problem but the Stewards stayed on top of it. The only negative would be that the Cafe/Buffet area is very small and gets congested at times. But none of this would stop us from sailing her again with the right itinerary of course. Globaliser Posted March 13, 2010 #8 Share Posted March 13, 2010 Is this true? Honest question - it might be accurate but it might not.IIRC, the Sun was the first ship designed for Freestyle cruising. But the concept was still being developed at the time, so you might find it difficult to think so now when you compare her to the latest NCL ships. bakerintn Posted March 13, 2010 #9 Share Posted March 13, 2010 INTERESTING ...didnt realize that...THANKs for the FYI;) the three character problem seems to have been fixed...just did a search for threads with "sun" and got lots of them...sorry for the misinformation, but that problem did exist a year or so ago...haven't tested it since. Yes, I believe that's correct - the Sun was the first ship designed for Freestyle. But I don't believe she was the first to introduce Freestyle. Cubuff1 Posted March 14, 2010 #11 Share Posted March 14, 2010 I sailed on The Sun over Thanksgiving to S.A. and really loved it. We were told that the crew gets the highest score in customer feedback surveys done by NCL. I also talked to some crew who say that that crew quarters there are nicer than some of the newer ships and they were very happy to be on The Sun. The service for us seemed to reinforce that the crew really liked their jobs. I think that the large percentage of non english speaking passengers on its current route contibutes to its low profile on cruise critic. I know that I see few posts about the Sun compared to other boats.

fin Posted March 14, 2010 #13 Share Posted March 14, 2010 You might be surprised by the pools. I did the Argentina to Chile trip in Feb to March. The in-cabin tv had a screen with pool temps, and so I grabbed a robe and bathing suit and swam pretty near every day, comfortably. Didn't have too much company though..... fin Posted March 14, 2010 #14 Share Posted March 14, 2010 OK, it's the Crown, not the Sun, but hopefully you get the idea. The water was wonderful!

erpa Posted March 14, 2010 #18 Share Posted March 14, 2010 The Sun was our very first cruiseship and we fell in love with cruising and with freestyle. I love the Sun's Great Outdoors cafe aft, with the big canvas awning. It's a smaller ship, which I also love. Can't remember anything bad, hope it's as great as we remember. We're sailing on the Sun again this fall and really looking forward to it. Have a great cruise!

We spent 49 days last year on a cruise around SA. We loved it. You have a treat coming. Looking forward to hearing your experience on NCL.
