Are the shops closed in port?

As our three night cruise is in port at Le Havre for the majority of the time (day and night for 2 days) will the shops be closed for nearly the entire cruise?

The shops are duty free and therefore closed at all times when in port.

I think the port they are in makes sure most revenue goes to them instead of RCCL at the time of docking.

Only to the extent that most passengers are off the ship while the ship is in port. We have stayed onboard in some ports and there have still been sufficient activities scheduled to satisfy us. At night there is still entertainment and audience participation activities, as well as an assortment of music styles available in the various lounges onboard.:) Being onboard when most passengers are off the ship can be a very pleasant and relaxing experience and feels somewhat like what I imagine being onboard your own private yacht would be.:)

The beauty shop should be open and perhaps some of the spa services. All the shops will be closed along with the Casino. They will open shortly after the ship is at sea once again.

In Nassau, the ship sails at 11pm but the casino and shops open around 6pm. My expereince has only been on a ship with a departure from port ( or already at sea) every night

 

Perhaps someone who has actually sailed on a cruise that has an overnight or two while in port address the question. It would be strange for the ship to be so "closed down" all day and all night for a few days. I can't imagine the casino closed each evening.

The previous posters are correct, in the majority of ports (Bahamas is an exception), all shops and the casino is closed. I did the Explorer 5 day Bermuda twice last year and the shops and casino were closed from the time we docked until an hour or so after we left the Dockyard.

Yes I have been on cruises with overnight port stops and the shops and the casino are indeed closed the entire time when in port. When in port the cruise lines have to follow the rules of the port and casinos are usually not licensed in that countries, so not allowed to open. As it has been said the shops are duty free and therefore can´t be opened in port either.

We did the 4 night cruise to Cork last August on Indy with an overnight stay in Cork and the casino did open the night we were in port - it was also the formal night. Not sure about the shops - we spent most of the night in the casino :p I would imagine they have made arrangements and will have the same on the le Harve trip :)
