Bubbles40 Posted March 27, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 27, 2010 Hi All I am doing this sailing on 21st August 2010 - and had a quick look at the excurions. Just wandered if anyone has experienced any nice ones - bearing in mind, I will be travelling solo. Ports of calls are :- Majorca At Sea Trapani (Sicilly) Naples (Italy) Ajaccio (Corsica) Cannes (France) Barcelonia (Spain) Disembark, Majorca There are 2 that interest me, which are both helicopter trips, one in Corsica and One in Barcelonia - but Corsica is only £35, the other £104 - they seem the same, so why the huge difference? There is another one - where you go to a wine tasting, nougart etc... Any advice or experience would be great - will need to fill my days up I think, as could end up being Billy No Mates  :D

Cymro1953 Posted March 27, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 27, 2010 Hi Bubbles, I answered a similar question on a couple of the ports you are going to. Naples and Barcelona. Have a look at post 3 on this thread. http://cruiseforums.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1156696 Ican't help with Sicily as we stopped in Messina last time we were there. Cymro1953 Posted March 28, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 28, 2010 P.S. Hi Mandie, I know those tips I gave in the post are mainly if you do the post solo which you might not want to do. But you will be spoilt for choice in Naples of ship's excursions. If you end up in Sorrento from Naples make sure you pop in here before you restart your diet. . http://www.bougainvillea.it/en/ We were there for a week and I'm sure we spent about 50% of the holiday in there. Congratulations on losing 6 stone, both Dw and I need to lose 3 each. We lost it all before, but it gradually crept back on again :( Will restart after April cruise Berwyn

As mentioned before, I have found 2 trips, one in Corsica and one in Barcelonea - both helpicoter trips but the costs are miles apart and having trouble understanding why - any ideas? Also, am I right in saying you cannot prebook trips with Thomson Crusies unlike any of the others! Ah thanks - yes loosing weight can be a very rocky road - I am just getting over a major operation, so have decided to restart again at end of May/beg of June - that gives me 3 mths to loose some, and then when I have finished my first cruise, I have another 2 mths to loose more, if I want, before my second cruise. At least I have something to make me want to - I have put about 1.5 stone back on, hence the reason of loosing it - and have pictures of what I looked like - so want to get back to this shape / clothes size again :D
Cymro1953 Posted March 28, 2010 #6 Share Posted March 28, 2010 Hi Mandie, the costs don't make any sense. You get twice as long in Corsica for quarter of the price. You're right about no prebooking of excursions. They say they are working on doing an online booking system like the others. There will be a leaflet with all excursions in your cabin when you arrive and a booking form. If the excursion desk is not manned there is a postbox thing for you to pop the booking form into and the tickets will arrive in your cabin. It's bad how the weight creeps back on when you're not looking. We 're in mid 50's and need to get it off for Mexico in Sept. We're doing atour of the Ancient Mayan sites so need to be fit for that. Berwyn Hi Berwyn :) Yes I think its mad - my mum told me I must have read it wrong - so double and tripple checked online yesterday and yep - sure as day - they are the prices! I might ring Thomsons and ask if they know the reason - I know Barcelonea is probably more expensive - but that takes the biscuit . Just trying to justify how much money I will need for my excursions etc... so I dont have a shock, faint, fall over when I get my invoice, haha. Yes, I know about the postbox thing - as have sailed on the Destiny before, but not solo  Ah the weight problem gets to us all - I turned 40 last year - so this is a treat for my birthday (albeit it is 2 days before I sail) so really want to loose what I have gained and more  need to get into my white trousers again - I looked quite nice - and never say that about myself :D
Cymro1953 Posted March 28, 2010 #8 Share Posted March 28, 2010 Part of it might be the insurance costs. With them flying over a city and the other one with more open countryside. I know what you mean about no unexpected costs. We've printed out all our Ports of Call pages off the site so we can work out what we're doing. we were fine with the weight until we got married. I was 27 and soon after on it crept. Then DW was pregnant and put on 4 stone and never seems to have been able to lose it. Got to have another serious go now though. Thank God for elasticated waists. Berwyn Yes it could be - only one way to find out I suppose. Well, I have just printed out the whole itinery and excursion list so I can now go through it in finer detail. I have stopped at Corsica and Capri before - but obviously would like to do something different there. Do not want to do an excursion every day, probably one every other day - as then I can have my late night sessions in the casino, hahaha  :D ;)

We can chill like you. When the boys came with us in Dec on their 1st cruise the eldest spent a lot of time in the casino playing poker. He didn't win but broke even most evenings and didn't loose more than his allowed ammount. It's the longest time we've spent in the casino watching him play. Berwyn Well my casino was a rather funny, but interesting experience - no details to be given, lol, but was the first time I had been in a casino since i was 18 - and then at the age of 18, only went once, lol. It was interesting to see how much people spent in so little time. I didnt spend much at all, and came better off at the end of it - so good, me thinks. Will take some cash to spend in there - but as you say - just adhere to your limits and you will be ok. Just going through the itinerary now - these helicopter rides just do not makes sense - so will ring Thomsons tomorrow, I think. I dont want to have to find the money just before I go, all at once, so would like to put a bit away each month, so that I have the money for excursions and casio and then I can treat myself to a few bits when out - that way it doesnt seem I am spending much - haha - thats what I keep telling myself

I have it if you need it. With going on the Dream at end of April have been phoning regularly, but with being on here I know more than them. That's why I'm on so much, to make sure I've stil got a cruise and not find out last minute something still isn't fixed. Berwyn
