getting around Helsinki

Recommended Posts

Hello. We will be in Helsinki July 11. We our docked at Hernesaari in the Western Harbour. How would we get to Market Square? Once in Market Square is it difficult to find the ferry to Suomenlinna? Is there ever a transport from the Ships(we are on Royal Carribean) to Market Square? We would like to explore island on our own.

Thank you

Local Bus 16 will pick you up at the LHC Port and let you off at Market Square (Kauppatori). It also does the return. I understand there are at least three busses per hour. I don't know about the Ferry. Barbara

Local bus #16 will take you there. Most ships also arrange shuttle busses, stopping at the Swedish Teatre from where you can reach the market by walking along the Esplanade park (about 600 yards walk).

The ferry starts from the east end of the Market Square (the end with souvenirs & tourist stuff) , There is a dark brown ticket hall. You can see both on this picture: You can use 24h local transport tickets on the ferry.

There are also boats going to Suomenlinna from the west end of Market Square (the end with the fruit / fish ) but you cannot use local transport tickets on those.

2.50 Euro, (1.20 Euro for children 7-16). 6.80 Euro for a 24h ticket (3.40 for children) . Yes you can buy them on the bus, cash only 20 Euro bills or smaller, exact charge prefered.

Is the 6.80 euro price for 24hrs for the Helskinki Tourist ticket which covers trams, busses, metro & ferry to Suomenlinna?

Such a deal!

Thats correct! And sorry, I used the wrong name earlier as the correct name is "one day ticket" while it is the similar one for Stockholm that is called "24h ticket".
