cereo Posted April 22, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 22, 2010 OK, so I'm more likely to be called a goody-two-shoes than to be called into the naughty room, but I am VERY curious. So all you naughty rule-breaking smugglers and compulsive iron-users do tell...what's it like? What were you in for? How were you treated?
djmutters Posted April 22, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 22, 2010 I think I must have been naughty on my last cruise because on the 14th morning of our cruise they made me pay my bill and leave the ship

Sugar*Magnolia Posted April 22, 2010 #4 Share Posted April 22, 2010 I wonder if this really exists. On a 2007 cruise, folks we were sailing with, from CC had a fishing knife in his checked luggage. They were called down just to explain why it was there and it was given back to them. If I recall correctly, they had to open the suitcase, take the knife out, say yes its mine I plan on fishing at such and such port (or something of the like). I dont think it is some seperate room, but an area..calling it the naughty room just riles folks and keeps them interested! hahaha
cruisedawgg Posted April 22, 2010 #5 Share Posted April 22, 2010 I have, because of a travel iron. But like CruiseDivaNJ says, its not really a room so much as it is an area where all the "withheld" luggage is kept. There were a LOT of pax's suitcases there, all with pieces of papers attached listing the "offense". Ours actually said "unknown" i guess because with the xray they couldn't make out what was inside??
cruisegirl1 Posted April 22, 2010 #6 Share Posted April 22, 2010 I’ve been called to SECURITY for a questionable item in my luggage. Is SECURITY “grown Up’” language for the naughty room? M
on the square Posted April 22, 2010 #7 Share Posted April 22, 2010 I was recently called to the naughty room over a bottle of hot sauce that DW always packs for me because the tabasco sauce they have on board just isn't hot enough. This was our 13th cruise with rccl and the first time we was called to the naughty room but have always taken the hot sauce. The sercurity guys were very nice and we all had a good laugh when I pulled out the bottle of hot sauce
bones774 Posted April 22, 2010 #8 Share Posted April 22, 2010 Just before a recent cruise we stayed in a hotel next to a Hardware store that was offering freebates on skil saw blades, I couldn't resist and bought 2- 7" blades(nasty looking, sharp) and packed them in luggage, luggage was a bit late coming to room but arrived and never questioned. Go figure.
Rare Shippy Posted April 22, 2010 #9 Share Posted April 22, 2010 I was wondering why my suitcase had not been delivered. After dinner, we went back to our room & the message light was flashing on the phone. They did not say why but told me to report down to the bilges where passengers usually do not go ! When I got there, I saw my suitcase and many others. A crew member looked me straight in the eyes & said, "do you have an iron in there!" I glanced over to a table that had a pile of irons on it & knew I was busted. I found myself whining about what a small travel iron it was & how cafeful I am with it. I was then instructed to open my suitcase. They do not open it so they cannot be accused of taking anything. I gave them my iron & they gave me a receipt and returned it the last night of the cruise. I cannot stand to be wrinkled & will not pay the price for their pressing. I do not want to hang everything in the bathroom as some suggest & 'steam' with hot shower water. I was very depressed but then....... I went up to the promenade & into one of their shops.....low & behold...they were selling clothes steamers for $25. Got one. Actually easier to use the iron. I am bringing it with me on our Mariner cruise next month.
Aquahound Posted April 22, 2010 #10 Share Posted April 22, 2010 Have you been in the naughty room? Yep. DW, bless her heart, packed a travel iron. The security staff was very professional and courteous. This may be because I did not give them a hard time. We were wrong. Bottom line.
disneygoof Posted April 22, 2010 #11 Share Posted April 22, 2010 Are flat irons (like curling irons) prohibited also? I haven't heard anyone say anything about these types of irons.
Silvery Seas Cruiser Posted April 22, 2010 #12 Share Posted April 22, 2010 Hubby was sent to the "naughty table" because as our carry on luggage passed through the X-ray machines, he was found to have a small pair of scissors in his bag. He had brought these same scissors on every cruise we have ever taken. The scissors were duly confiscated, recorded and returned to him at the end of the cruise. I feel this is really over-zealous because if he wanted to do any damage, he could go to the Windjammer or MDR and get knives off any table. But we laughed about it. What can you do? It's their ship and their rules.
mizled033 Posted April 22, 2010 #13 Share Posted April 22, 2010 I took my flat iron on my cruise in March and it was not questioned and actually worked a dual purpose straightened my hair and took the wrinkles out of my dress pants...lol
sunandsnow Posted April 22, 2010 #14 Share Posted April 22, 2010 On our 3/21 sailing on Liberty of the Seas, all but one piece of luggage was delivered. We received a call from Security. We went down to the "naughty room" (hallway for luggage), opened our bag in front of security...my husband had a dive knife in the luggage. They kept the knife, gave him a receipt. On the day of the dive, he had to go and retrieve the knife then turn it back in. After the cruise he retrieved his knife after we left the ship by the taxi area. Glad they are doing their job and there are not a lot of people carrying weapons. It was no big deal but we did miss a little of the sailaway. I just wanted to take care of it asap and get our luggage. In hindsight, we should've gone to the sailaway and dealt with it later.

whiteway906 Posted April 23, 2010 #17 Share Posted April 23, 2010 I got called to the naughty room last year because I had a steak knife in my bag. I want to get mangos in ports and it's hard to cut them with a dinner knife. They confiscated that. And then I came back into the ship one day and got busted for a pint bottle of rum I forgot was in my purse. The next day I got right on the ship with mangos tucked into some pottery that I bought. Not a peep out of them. I did feel naughty. Re: scissors. I took a pair of small scissors on my last cruise tucked into the bottom of my makeup bag. No naughty room for me then. I did get escorted out of the security area at the airport in San Juan on the return because I had two bottles of alcohol in my checked bag. Innocent me. I was just trying to get through security to meet my aunt on the other side before she flew home on a different flight. American wouldn't let me check my bags in yet so what was I going to do? The TSA didn't think I was so innocent, I guess. :p They were very nice as they escorted me past ALL those people in line. They were staring. I was laughing. It could have been so much worse. Hail to the San Juan TSA.

Texaspepper Posted August 2, 2010 #20 Share Posted August 2, 2010 That's just about the funniest thing I've heard lately! Thank you. :D :D My other neighbor wife and little girl flew to Miami 18 months back to board NCL. There were two ships . . .porters put their bags on the wrong ship. No bags for 4 days. NCL give them a voucher for $$ off next cruise. So, 2 months ago they fly to Miami. . .he has two pint bottles in his check in. . .the bag ends up the the naughty room. He goes and opens they take it out. Security says "Don"t buy alcohol drinks on board.? "Nope" the neighbor says Security says. "OK" and put the bottles back in the bag and sent hem off to the room with the bag.
Jesziegler Posted August 2, 2010 #21 Share Posted August 2, 2010 Let's hope that I don't end up in the naughty room. I was reading my cruise docs and it did state no scissors.... I hope they let me keep mine. My son has medical issues and has a trach and I need them to use for his tracheostomy care.

Tranquil Waters Posted August 2, 2010 #23 Share Posted August 2, 2010 Went to the naughty room with friends we were cruising with. Friend's DH had packed a bottle of scotch. I was quite excited as I had never got sent to the Principal's office in high school, have never had reason to go to court, etc.... This was my chance to be a "bad girl". :p Well, it was really all quite anticlimactic.:( It was a room in this case. Lots of luggage sitting around. A couple of bored looking staff. "Is there alcohol..?" "Yes, there is" "You'll have to take it out. You will get it back at end of cruise" "Next...." They did get it back. But the staff members could have cared less. It was their job to hold the stuff that was "naughty". So they held it. No drama at all. Sigh........ :D
traveling1969 Posted August 2, 2010 #24 Share Posted August 2, 2010 Yeah, I got popped. 6 bottles of wine and 2 of booze. The security guy said that was the record for that cruise:D. Got it all back at noon on the last day. Can't remember what happened after that:p. Bon Voyage to all!
Jesziegler Posted August 2, 2010 #25 Share Posted August 2, 2010 on that i would call ahead of time and get ok. I just got off the phone with RCL.. Not to worry, I won't be going to the naughty room. Now only if I can get the doctor to put rum in my son's IV bags (for Me of course). LOL
