travelntreats Posted April 23, 2010 #51 Share Posted April 23, 2010 I do. Now I've read two people saw that had a rowdy cruise...you and G'ma. I can't expect this to represent every cruise. And CC is but a tiny % of actual cruisers that voice their opinions and relay their personal experiences onboard their cruises ! <---lacing up the boots ! KandCsailing Posted April 23, 2010 #52 Share Posted April 23, 2010 The Glory was first 2 cruises we did. It's a nice ship. The lighting in the promenade and the lobby is a little wild but it didn't bother us. I thought it was kinda fun. Oops, there the art school training coming back! The layout also takes a little getting used to as there are a couple decks (3 and 4?) that do not go all the way to the aft. The aft pool on the lido deck is nice and quiet; all the games happen at the main pool in the middle. We also sailed Liberty twice which is the same class and took DH's parents in their 60's with us once and they had a great time. We tend to go to the piano bar late at night and stay away from the disco. The buffet was good, but we don't go right at the peak lunch hour, and don't forget to try the fish and chips above the buffet. There is also more seating up there. Our last cruise was NCL out of New York and it was "OLD". Everything but the casino shut down late at night and I would just wander the almost empty ship taking photos. The comedian on board also told some "Walmart" jokes. Not very classy. Since I'm the type of person who will talk to anybody, I know for a fact that some of those "Walmart" cruisers are really nice up close and some of the others are real pigs in their 'me first' attitudes. DanJ Posted April 23, 2010 #53 Share Posted April 23, 2010 Again, I found my cruise on CCL in the 80's no different than a cruise in the 00's. And when I read the statement such as yours, I will alway press to ask, just when did you sail on CCL? My cruises are listed in my sig file, so if you don't have sigs enabled, that's on you. My first Carnival cruise was in Jan 2001, and my second 8 months later. Night and day. I've never wanted a cruise to end, but I'll say I wasn't overly upset to see Port Everglades that last morning on the Tropicale.

nothomeonacruise Posted April 23, 2010 #59 Share Posted April 23, 2010 I sailed with CCL in the 80's and I definately see the changes in passengers... back then you did not see the sr. passengers as predominant as you see in todays cruising environment... at least not on CCL. And also back in those days the 3 - 4 night cruises were the more popular and affordable, thus the more inclined to "party crowd" which is where the stigma of "Party till you puke" started and was a REALITY that I saw compared to say RCI sailings I also had the pleasure of enjoying. DanJ is making some very VALID POINTS and are far from "heresay" ! Quite the contrary, I think Carnival attracts a lot of families of all income levels. I saw MORE partying on the Royal Caribbean. There were far more adults and less families on that cruise. The drunken woman being carried to her room was just one instance on that cruise. On Carnival, we see more family activities, and more families going to bed early.

waykaylincruz Posted April 23, 2010 #62 Share Posted April 23, 2010 I really think I will regret posting this, and SHOULD STOP, but I can't!!! I am cruising on Carnival in October and I also have cruised in the past on the Fantasy. I had a great cruise but the only thing that even remotely resembled a negative was the decor. It wasn't for me.....flashy and vegasy. But that doesn't affect my cruising experience!!!! I had great service and everything I needed, what more could I ask for?? Now, I am coming back to Carnival after several years and found myself back on the Carnival CC boards. I have made a realization, there is SO MUCH mention of alcohol, drinking and the like on here. Every few threads are about smuggling alcohol or how to get it past security, rum runner flasks, etc. There seems to be more of this on this forum than on any other lines forums here on CC. NOTE: THE THREADS DO NOT BOTHER ME NOR OFFENDS ME, but it might give someone a wrong impression or re-inforce their opinion that Carnival is a party/drinking crowd on their ships. That is just my opinion and observation. Yes, most all of you will disagree, but again, it is MY thoughts. I sail Carnival and look forward to my upcoming cruise in October!! thesmiths Posted April 23, 2010 #63 Share Posted April 23, 2010 I'm not sure either.. we just got off a Valor and it was a great time, even my Mom & Pop (78)(77) who haven't cruised in 20+ years said it was a great time.!

Now you are just being argumentative.... just to contest ANYTHING that anyone is stating..... nuff said.:p May all your cruises meet your expectations and Don't listen to hearsay because you seem to be one that will dispute it/contest it and argue about it no matter what ! JerseyshoreBruce Posted April 23, 2010 #66 Share Posted April 23, 2010 Besides Carnival won't tolerate drunks......a person that works with my SIL just went on a Carnival cruise and came back on the ship from a port blitzed and they took away his drinking privleges for 24 hours and keep him in his room for 12 hours i believe. So Carnival while it is a fun ship won't put up with drunks.

ussenterprise Posted April 23, 2010 #71 Share Posted April 23, 2010 Wife and I did our first cruise on Jubilee when she was in her last year of service with Carnival and two years later, we sailed on Carnival Liberty when she was brand new. The difference was night and day. Two years later, after hearing rave reviews about RCCL (better food, better service, nicer ships) we sailed on Navigator of the Seas. Don't get me wrong, she was a nice ship, the service was great and I would certainly recommend that ship and RCCL to anyone, but I would just as happily recommend Carnival because the difference was not night and day. RCCL was not so much better that it was worth what we paid. We are heading out on Freedom on 5-16 and are very much looking forward to it. IMO, Carnival is a better deal. But I wouldn't put folks down for it, that's nuts. As long as you cruise then you are ok in my book. =)
S.S.Oceanlover Posted April 23, 2010 #73 Share Posted April 23, 2010 Well it's my travel agent that puts some of the ideas in my head, maybe she's trying to upsell. The price is very reasonable and out of my home port, so big savings on airfare, i'll give it a try and report back. I am still just a little cautious, hate to hear from my wife "we are never gonna sail carnival again", as i'm putting this all together.Funny, I'm looking forward to going on the refurbished Glory and I'm not hearing rave reviews about, nothing bad, it just does not seem a big favorite for most people. Maybe your TA was looking out for her best interest and not yours. Just remember that TA's get paid by commission. The more you sell of one cruise line the higher the commission. Maybe she gets paid more from RCI than she does from CCL, and if the prices are higher on other lines then she'll also be making more money on the sale. Just a thought. Oscar_the_Grouch's_Sis Posted April 23, 2010 #74 Share Posted April 23, 2010 After doing countless hours of research I chose Carnival (I sail very soon! :D ) Not only do the professional cruise critics agree that they worked hard to update their image and it paid off (better food, good for families etc.) ... I found that they offer 1 thing that all the cruise lines don't : Spa comfort beds in ALL rooms. That is extremely important to me! My Mom and I sailed RCCL a few years back (we had a handicap room so the size was ok) and the bed we shared was so uncomfortable I couldn't sleep all week. It hurt me so bad. It is little things like that that make all the difference.
bones774 Posted April 23, 2010 Author #75 Share Posted April 23, 2010 Hi All, I'm the OP and gonna go with CCL at this time and price i'm really not taking that big a gamble. I'm pretty easy to satisfy, taking it easy, good food and good times is all that i require, the one thing i can't stand is cig/cigar smoke, hopefully it won't be in the cabin and dining room, it's the one recurring complaint i hear that scares me.
