Examining the socioeconomic effect of cruising and its long-term global repercussions

Recommended Posts

OR as I like to call it,

'What I did on my summer vacation'

The last cruise I took, my waiter insisted that I eat several desserts.

I wonder if he realized just what a catastrophic effect my dessert eating habits would have on the world.

My favorite was the banana split ordered from the Children's menu.

Anyone else tried one of those?

yummmmm!

Hello, yourself Maureen. :)

What's troubling you?

It's hard to tell, really.

Is it my over indulgence in dessert offerings?

Oh, maybe you weren't aware of the existence of a children's menu?

Are you unsure of what a banana split is?

Perhaps it is lack of continuity between the title of my post and what can be found inside?

If that's the case, just keep reading other posts here, you will find plenty of examples of topic titles and content that have nothing to do with one another.

Just tonight I was happily reading a topic about requesting additional offerings in the MDR only to find that the subject matter found inside was something akin to conversations in my sustainable food production versus population growth 101 class in University.

Maybe I just have too much time on my hands and my sense of humor isn't understood by many.

Nevertheless, I appreciate you taking the time to contribute to the discussion.

:)

:)

Oh, and yes, I have had a few things from the children's menu over the years but I still think the Banana Split is my favorite.

Anyone else have a favorite item from the children's menu?

Oh, don't worry about me--I am not "troubled" by much! I didn't know if I was supposed to read your post backwards or skipping every 6th letter to make a new message or what? But, you seem happy, your banana split looks delicious, we both love cruising, so all is well with the world! Happy Cruising to you!...Maureen

Hiya Liz!

I know, that can be a problem with the waiters sometimes. They actually care about making sure we are happy.

Don't they stop to think about the wold debt crisis or the fact that the coffee served in the MDR could contribute to the deforestation of the rainforest?

All I can say is...Bongay. Best. Waiter. Ever.

Even if he doesn't care about over use of pesticides to grow the food we eat.

I love the fact that you persist in introducing topics that bring us all together in a spirit of confusion and amusement. This thread no different.

Question : do you always do as you are told? I'm so sorry you felt compelled to keep your wait staff content in their job and personally responsible for reducing food wastage. May I suggest you create a group through CC where people sailing on the same cruise could meet online beforehand and discuss tactics and mantras to be used in similar circumstances. You could post meeting details on the Guest Services information board. Call yourselves 'Friends of Roseanne' or someone else who also has problems with the negative response to 'Would you like fries with that?'

Hi NN,

Spreading the feeling of confused amusement is a very difficult responsibility, but I try my best. :)

I LOVE your suggestion for 'Friends of Roseanne' meetings! We need to develop a series of steps to complete and some mantras to remember as we struggle our way to food enlightenment.

What about something like, 'Give us strength to accept with serenity the things that we must eat. courage to eat the things we shouldn't, and the wisdom to distinguish ice cream from frozen yougurt.' ??

Join me, all you fellow 'Friends of Roseanne' and help make this world a better place - One forkfull at a time.

Hahahahahahha. I too read that thread and was totally ticked off. That was unbelievable. I almost canceled my CC membership because of it. Glad I stumbled upon this thread and calmed down enough not to cancel. Also glad to know I'm not the only who thought that was just crazy!!!

Heheh, very nice topic.

Wait, they have banana splits onboard?! They are already serving my favorite dessert and I didn't even have to request it special! I wonder what the staff would do if I tried to order a split for ever course.

"I'll be having a banana split for my appetizer. And a banana split for my entree..And TWO banana splits for my dess--Hey, wait, why are we going to the gym? Noo, I don't want to do pilates!"

Or something.

THANK YOU, through your satirical post...for bringing some sanity (and a little humor) to these boards; where a loud minority subscribe to a pseudo-socialist world view based on a flawed premise. 'If a person (or a country) enjoys the fruits of a high standard of living; that person (or country) is taking away from those who have not achieved that'...the world economy is not static, like a piece of pie, where if I take more , you get less. It has the potential to GROW when not stifled by good intentioned but misguided efforts to "even things out" through legislated means. Such attempts usually have the opposite effect of the intention; and just make EVERYONE miserable. SO endeth the lesson.

You know that the person on the other thread was probably raised by a mother who told them "clean your plate - there are starving children in China" (or wherever). I've never quite understood that - is Mom going to send the leftovers to China?

LOL!! - OK I have not read the "other thread" (and from the sound of things here, I will avoid it), but I just had to say this entire thread had me laughing! So thanks to all!

And although I am not a banana split fan, I did order the Mickey Ice Cream bar from the kids menu several times on Disney. Yum!
