Just off Caribbean Princess 5/27, another wonderful cruise!!

Not to worry - I've been around a long time and have grown a thick skin. Did I mention that a 91 year old ladies' suitcase fell in the water? Hmmmm. must have missed that. I watched an officer run like mad from the bridge wing then pop out onto the pier below me. While the other bridge crew looked through binoculars and pointed at the water beside the ship, the stevedores got long poles with hooks and fished the luggage out of the river.

Go Princess!!! The officer never said Jack squat. Here is your luggage. That guy knew that a number of suitcases fell in the water, yet did jack crap to solve the problem.

We happened to sit with them (the couple with the wet suitcase) for dinner one night and the Lady complained that "everything in my suitcase is soaking wet". Another GO PRINCESS moment.

So you see, things were not as they should have been.

We have sailed Costa, NCL, RCCI and Princess. Anyone wanna guess our favorite line?

I don't think anyone here questions your account of the events that appeared to have marred your cruise. The incident with the lady near the elevator is troubling. But I, for one, have tired of the "GO PRINCESS" thing. Stuff happens on any and every cruise. I would hazard a guess that if one went to your "favorite line's" board, one would find a litany of problems that passengers have experienced and endured as well. Condemning a ship and a line because of a few isolated incidents is immoderate. Yes, you can count me as a Princess "cheerleader", but they have earned that kind of enthusiasm with me. I've never had any problem with them that couldn't be solved to my satisfaction. Enjoy yourself with whatever cruiseline you choose to frequent in the future.

I agree that the "Go Princess" thing is very annoying and tiring !!!! Hope you find a cruise line that you like.

I've cruised NCL, RCL, Celebrity and Princess. I prefer Princess, but that wouldn't stop me from cruising on one of the other lines. Maybe not NCL as they are a little to relaxed for me, but just my opinion.

So I think everyone has heard enough from you and all your negativity!!!

Hi- I am from Jersey too...sailing CB

7/11. Are you going to Bermuda...if so are you buying a transportation pass?? I would love to find someone sailing who is ahead of me and can get two one days for me...those lines were not pleasant last year...let me know & I will give you the $$

I work in Jersey City (Nurse) & live in central jersey...

my e-mail is Brat Det AT aol.com...of course no spaces...

Thanks!

Bernadette

last year on the CB we wound up next to people who lived just a mile away in the same town...

Hi Bernadette- Yes we're going to Bermuda but we're going on a ship excursion so we won't be buying a transportation pass. Sorry! I really hope that you find someone to help you or if not, that you don't have to wait in line too long. You could try posting on our roll call for 6/5 and see if anyone can help. Good luck! :)

So I was trying to be nice, but now I see that ASLC's agenda is just to bash Princess and they are hijacking Emilysmimi's thread. Again, I'm sorry that they didn't have a good time but they should really start their own thread if they would like to continue their rant.

By the way, the incident with the suitcase could happen at any port and the people that load the luggage onto the ship do not work for Princess. Also, it wasn't their suitcase so how exactly did it impact their vacation?

If there was an injured passenger, my husband & I would have not left her till she was taken care of......and then returned to vacation mode...

Phone Goddess...thanks anyway..I am rethinking...husband & I can walk to glass beach..snorkel...go back to ship to shower off quick, eat and then get get back off- get pass and go to Hamilton via ferry...

I think the reason why there were such lies last year was two ships parked the same day and time...

I wanna hear more from the original poster about their positive vacation!!!

(Back to yardwork!)

We just got of of the CB yesterday and, yes, they had a wonderful Seafood Buffet in the Horizon Court, the night of the sailaway - lobster claws, shrimp, steamed mussels, etc., etc., ...but not in the dining rooms. The Horizion Court and the Calypso Cafe, are fortunate to have a wonderful chef and great waiters. Enjoy.

That's good news as we'll be on the CB shortly. Our first on her. but I don't anticipate any great difference from other Princess ships. Hope I'm right.

Firstly, I must apologize to the OP for hijacking their thread. I did.

No, I was not MY suitcase that fell in the water. I never said that was the cruise lines fault. However - they knew there was an issue and obviously did nothing to correct it on their own.

As for impacting MY VACATION? Is that how people think? Really? I don't.

So if something goes wrong on someone else's vacation and does not affect YOU. It's OK?

If you all read my hijack - my bad experiences for the most part were of things that happened to others. Not me.

As for you trying to be nice? IMHO needs work.

The GO PRINCESS thing is something that I picked up here on these boards. I admit I am using it sarcastically, but rightfully so.

The bad things that happened on my cruise, were a result of what actually happened to others for the most part. Sorry that I could not come back on here after my cruise and said GO PRINCESS and meant it.

Sorry if caring for others in the world comes off as negative and that you and everyone else have heard enough.

The sad part is......is that we booked this cruise based on what we "thought" would be an upscale cruiseline. Don't kid yourself - we weren't born yesterday and this was not our first cruise.

Based on many of the posters comments, I now see where Princess gets their good looks from. Sad, but it appears that the ME FIRST attitude prevails across all lines.

  • 2 weeks later...

We were also on the 27 sailing. Was my 55 cruise, second with princess maybe my last!!!

Was very shocked to see a mini yorkie, (DOG) (YES DOG) on board. Some bull about it being a service dog to wake the careless owner up for insulin, yorkies have a brain the size of a pea like its owner. The worst of it was when she took the dog in the pool and changed its diaper and wrung it out in the pool. All they said at the pursers was we'll clean the pool and we should use a different pool. DISGUSTING, talk about health and safety issues. Not very pleased with the food either, especially the fake filet mignon, even the waiter made a face at it. Also quite disappointed the sports deck was closed for 5 days. Not a big fan of princess!!!!

That is exactly what we did on the Second morning!

Almost all cruise lines have issues with buffet crowding on the first morning. People have not started "finding out about the dining room service or room service. And they are usually still in their pre vacation sleep patterns. Usually the buffet settles down after a morning or two of people adjusting.

Most of us who want warm food, no lines, and assured seating do the dining room and avoid the buffet.

I appreciate all of ASLCs comments they are warning that no cruise is perfect. On a large ship, someone will have a bad experience and the majority will be very pleased. It is the nature of group tavel.

I will be sailing on the Caribbean Princess with my daughter on July 2. This will be my 11th Princess cruise and the 4th on CB and have four more booked. Was each trip perfect, no; did we have a fantastic time, yes!!!

Except for one trip on another ship, I have always found the staff and crew to be friendly, helpful and outgoing. We've had some weird special requests and they have always been responded to in a quick and professional manner. Of course I'm sure the way we ask plays some part in the response we receive. We try to be pleasant and acknowledge that it may be difficult to honor our request. We don't demand it with implications that our vacation would be absolutely ruined without it.

I'm looking forward to our cruise in 22 days and can't wait to be back onboard. We are happy with CB. We didn't pick the ship specifically, we picked her because we live in NJ and Brooklyn is convenient. It will be my fifth time on this itinerary, the first two were on the Crown. Can't wait for my coffee at the International Cafe and breakfast on the balcony.

For the poster who inquired about transportation in Bermuda, you will be able to get a cab at the pier and request an island tour. Otherwise there are ferries and buses. For those you can get a day pass. We are probably staying on the ship this time since we have been there before and it is a Sunday. If you are going to be in Bermuda on a Sunday, I would book a ship's tour. The stores in Hamilton are closed on Sundays. There are some shops open in the little mall near the dock. Best bet on a Sunday is a ship's tour.

I was on the 5/27 sailing too. I saw the dog - the first time I've ever seen anything like this but I don't see how it was Princess's fault. It seemed to me that someone was taking advantage of Princess's policy for accessibility to handicapped people, and so what was she thinking letting the dog in the pool? The pool was closed after that. (The incident occurred at the MUTS pool - fondly referred to by us as the "mutts pool" after that.)

At least Princess has lots of pools so when stupid things like this happen, it's not a disaster.

I don't remember Sports Deck being closed, my daughter sunned herself on the lounges there on the two days we had sun. Or are you referring to the sports court on the Sky Deck?

BTW, we had 6 in our group and surprisingly didn't have too hard of a time getting a large table at the Horizon Court, but sometimes we sat in the Cafe Caribe. It's right next door but I don't think people think to go there. Also we noticed that when one side of Horizon was very busy, the opposite side was usually (relatively) empty.

And we were able to buy a day pass for the ferry/bus in Bermuda right at a visitors desk in the security building you pass through to get outside.

BTW. Carol Holding...a good souveineir store ad some other stores WERE open last year on Sunday...and even more were open at the dockyard. We went to Hamilton for a lark, shopped and took the ferry back....it wasn't perfect cause a lot was closed, but enough to make the visit worthwhile...

We will prob do it again this trip also..

1st post on Cruise Critic after lurking for several months!

Really excited for my Caribbean Princess cruise on 7/11.

The only issue I have had with Princess was in 2008 when I took a repositioning cruise from Brooklyn to Puerto Rico. Most of the crew seemed very unhappy. Also, my wife and I don't really drink so whenever we would ask for a soda from our soda cards the bartender by the pool seemed like we were really putting him out. Has anybody else had issues during re-positioning cruises?

My wife and I are pretty laid back though and we still had an awesome time.

I am also glad they added the international cafe to the CB since my last cruise because that was one of my favorite things from the Crown Princess.

Not sure where you got your info from. But Princess is not an "upscale" cruise line.

When I think of "upscale" SeaDream, Silverseas, Cyrstal and Regent come to mind.

last year we were docked side by side with princess in grand turk. My sister was having trouble breathing. I asked an uniformed officer from my ship to radio the ship to send help to us. (we still had the long walk from the beginning of the pier to the gangway) He refused, all in all I asked 3 crew members from our ship for help. No one helped, other than to say I needed to get it myself. Bottom line, 2 officers from the princess ship stopped and offered her help. They radioed for a wheelchair and escorted us to the gangway on our ship. We will not book that cruise line again. We are going on our first princess this August. Thank you Princess!

Do not stress about the soda cards the bartenders and servers act that way mostly to everyone because they do not make tips on them. I have bought the soda card on every cruise I have gone on and always got this kind of service with it. However, even saying that it is still worth it to me cause i like to have soda with each meal and stuff like that.
