bbwex Posted May 31, 2010 #2 Share Posted May 31, 2010 It is the VETERAN, not the preacher, who has given us freedom of religion. It is the VETERAN, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the VETERAN, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble. It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. It is the VETERAN, not the politician, Who has given us the right to vote. It is the VETERAN who salutes the Flag, It is the VETERAN who serves under the Flag, ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM. seafare Posted May 31, 2010 #3 Share Posted May 31, 2010 My DH served 37 years in the Army and was an Air Force "Brat" so that has been most of his life serving in one capacity or another. Thank you to both previous posters. You have brought to our attention the true meaning of Memorial Day. It is not about Hot Dogs and Hamburgers but in remembering those who gave the "Ultimate Sacrifice". Let us all give thanks to those who served and to the families who endured many loses both in time with their loved ones and of course to their loved ones who never returned home. Rare TracieABD Posted May 31, 2010 #6 Share Posted May 31, 2010 I woke up thinking about my dad today. He served for 33 years in the Air Force. He died this past January, and was buried with full military honors at Arlington this May. Today is my first Memorial Day with my dad.:(
