John73 Posted June 15, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 15, 2010 I'm currently booked on the Aug 29th Western Caribbean sailing on the Solstice but today I found out that I need to be at work that week so I can't take the cruise. I'm still outside the full payment window so no loss of deposit for cancelling. So, now I'm trying to decide which dates to move to. I can either do the 8/14 or the 9/12 sailings since those are still Western Caribbean. I'm leaning towards the 8/14 thinking it's a 'safer' time weather-wise. Only downside is that airfare is about $200 more during that time. Any other things I should be thinking about when making the choice?
LuLaLuvlee Posted June 15, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 15, 2010 One thing you may wish to factor is this...by the September date all the children will be back at school.

We would chose the 9/12 date. :)

Hi Mike:) weather can be unpredictable either month....Katrina was in August........ I agree with the previous 2 posters though. I would do September as well. I was thinking about Sept 12th but found out today someone else in my office just snagged that week. Funny, she will be going on her very first cruise:D
John73 Posted June 16, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted June 16, 2010 I appreciate all the advice and I think I'd normally go with the Sept sailing based on it. But there were two things that have me going with the Aug sailing. 1 - I'm able to get an Aqua Class room for only $100 more than CC and only $200 more than obstructed balcony. That same cabin class is +$300 on the Sept 12th date than the Aug 15th date. (nothing special on a TA here, all prices from Celebrity's web site). 2 - Since I also have the Dec cruise booked and I'm still only 99% sure I'll enjoy cruising, the August one returns in time that if I don't like cruising I can still cancel my Dec cruise with no penalty. jerseygirl3 Posted June 16, 2010 #6 Share Posted June 16, 2010 I'm surprised the August date is priced lower than September. September (after kids are back in school) is usually surprisingly inexpensive...one of my favorite times to cruise.
John73 Posted June 16, 2010 Author #7 Share Posted June 16, 2010 Airfare is definitely lower in September! I was surprised too by the small premium to pay for AQ in August. Not gonna complain though :)
jackdiamond Posted June 16, 2010 #8 Share Posted June 16, 2010 Interesting, since hurricane Charley struck on Friday the 13th of August, 2004. On the other hand, September 10, is the peak of the hurricane season. However, if you do not live in a hurricane zone then you should have no worries. dmwnc1959 Posted June 16, 2010 #9 Share Posted June 16, 2010 If a hurricane does come into the ships expected itinerary, they may change yours, so pick a cabin category you're most comfortable with regardless of cost. A 7-night western Caribbean cruise can turn into a 7-night eastern, or 7 nights in the Bahamas and central Florida at the drop of a hat. Its happened. John73 Posted June 17, 2010 Author #10 Share Posted June 17, 2010 Thanks dmwnc1959. I went with the Aug 15th primarily due to the $300 lower price for an AQ cabin. Figure I can put up with any itinerary changes and enjoy the cabin & trip still.
