soldham Posted June 28, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 28, 2010 Thinking about taking this cruise beginning August 19th going to Scotland, Iceland, Greenland, East coast of Canada, and New York. Thinking seeing the Edinburgh Tattoo would be really cool.... Any thoughts or feedback?
RetiredMustang Posted June 28, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 28, 2010 We took the similar cruise last year, and enjoyed it very much. We started in Copenahgen and some of the ports are different this year, but it seems to be agreat itinerary as well. The Tattoo is a wonderful experience, but the tickets sell out fast. Probably the best way is to book a HAL shore excursion, since it is difficult on your own. Last year, the ship sold out 9 bus loads, and could have sold more. There is a very active roll call on the cruise you are considering: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1041933 Although ours was a different itinerary, you may get some info about the Tattoo and info and photos of other ports from the live blog I did during the cruise: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1039651 DW and I liked that trip so much, we are booked on the one leaving from Dover in 2011! Hope this helps, Dave
RuthC Posted June 28, 2010 #3 Share Posted June 28, 2010 I've done the westbound trans-At on the northern route many times. I love it! :) The seas can get a bit "bumpy" that far north, and you may pass a storm (or two) heading to Europe. It will pass. Be prepared for some cooler weather. The last couple of days heading down to NYC are usually very nice.
janmcn Posted June 29, 2010 #4 Share Posted June 29, 2010 We're booked on it, but check about the Tattoo tix...I think they're sold out from HAL too... It's a great itinerary. If you plan to do it, read some Viking history since we'll be following Erik the Red's and Leif Erikson's (his son) voyages in about 1000! (Greenland was warmer then!) Come on along...and yes, check in on our Roll Call.
