Grand Cayman - Can you walk to 7 mile beach from dock?

I can't seem to find a definitive answer to this on the boards. We are sailing Emerald (Western) in September. We want to spend the day @ 7mile beach but are unclear as to whether or not we can just get off the ship & be @ the beach or if we need to taxi/excursion to get there. Any help would be great!

It's a very long walk. You are better off taking a taxi. There are plenty available as you get off the ship.

We did this walk easily. Couple of flat (and hot) kilometres from town from what I remember. The hard thing about it was actually finding access to the beach as all the access roads said private on them.

We eventually found a public access and had a nice day on a quiet beach. No facilities where we were though. We had lunch at a beach hotel we came across and used the facilities there.

No idea whether there is a public area with sun beds and facilities etc, a bit further along. Maybe a taxi would take you to a more suitable area?

Another option is taking an island tour for a couple of hours (turtle farm, rum factory, Hell, etc.) and they will offer to drop you off at the beach at the end. You can then take a taxi back to the ship after your beach time. We only paid $20 each for this a couple of years ago. You do have to pay your own entrance fee at the turtle farm. It was a good bargain and the vans only take a dozen people or less. Samples at the rum factory are free!

There is a beach bus/van that goes to Sea Grape Beach, which is part of Seven mile beach. The cost was $5.00 per person each way.

You could walk, but it may not be an easy walk if the weather is humid

Just go out to the sidewalk at the peir and you will see the beach van

Beach bar, chair rentals and rest rooms are available there,

We walked (not sure if we made it all the way). Hot, sidewalks sometimes, traffic all the time. We had been told that all beaches are public. You just have to get to them. We walked thru a hotel and paid to use their loungers. We took a taxi back.

When you get off the tender, the Seven Mile beach starts to your left. I've heard it doesn't actually go up 7 miles, but it's very long. All along the way are hotels which charge you to sit on "their" beach and/or use beach chairs. You can go to any of them and pay if you like (I did that once and it was fine) OR catch a taxi at the tender drop off and ask them to take you to the Public part of Seven Mile beach. It's down at the far, far end of the beach. We paid $10 r/t for 2 of us to get there. It's a lovely beach, but no chairs, restrooms, or food. Just sand and water! ;) But it was a fun couple of hours and our taxi driver even waited for us while we were there.
