Forthose who think drinks on the cruise are overpriced...

Where I live in rural Wisconsin, that $7 could buy 3 mixed drinks at my local pub... but is about the price that is charged in any of the big cities around here. I was at a hotel in Minneapolis a few weeks ago, where a simple beer started at $6..

so the prices for drinks on cruise lines don't surprise me.

Jealous. They're almost $9 at an Astros game.

That is my point. If people stopped buying due to pricing, drinks would cost a lot less.

As long as demands does not suffer prices for drinks will keep going up.

Insane that something that costs the concessionaire about $ 0.50 at most can go for that price.

Just attended my 30-year high school reunion - a Jack and coke in a small glass with a carefully measured 1.5 ozs of alcohol was $7!! I kept thinking I could be drinking a foo-foo drink on the cruise for this amount!!

My last few cruises, the foo-foos are running more like $10(or more) and the jack and coke will cost you close to $7 now with the tip added in.

It was nice a few years ago when cruise drinks were way cheaper than land. Carnival seems to have made an effort to get their pricing more in line with what a hotel would charge. I guess it's a way to keep revenues up in tough times because the drinkers will still drink most of the time no matter what the price.

Between welcome back party, farewell party, roll call cocktail party (on many of our cruises), going to an all inclusive beach stop and bringing wine on board last few cruises we purchased maybe one or two rounds of drinks.

At this rate one of these days we will go on a cruise and find ourselves not having purchased any booze on board.

I don't think the prices onboard are that different compared to onshore drinking establishments. Especially compared to a resort - which is essentially what a cruise is. They have a captive audience and they know you can't go "down the street" - but even considering that I don't think it is outrageous.

Over the years, my favorote foo foo has gone up is price, while the taste has hit rock bottom. Carnival hit a high when they were serving Fat Tuesday drinks. but what they serve now is awful. and if you want top shelf, it`s more.

I don't drink but the hubby does and I still find paying $3.25 for pop at restaurants is crazy. So I take my Crystal Light pack and make my own.:D I have seen bar tab cost as much as the persons whole trip, I just don't get it.

I don't think you can compare a huge cruise line with some geedonk hotel or pub. Heck I can go to Vegas and sit at their machines and gamble and get free drinks--anything you want! Why doesn't Carnival offer that in their casinos? The Smuggle is my choice of drink aka as I Take My Chances. :D

I was just having this exact conversation with a friend at work who has never cruised and wanted to know how much it costs to drink. The same exact plastic hurricane glass gets me a mixed drink at a Royals game for $11 so it's definitely cheaper for me to drink DOD's on the cruise.

Here's the deal as I see it with the scenario above. Carnival cruises everyday and they have a crowd to sell products to from early morning to late at night. A baseball game maybe once a week to cater to a crowd that many don't drink due to having to drive home. So of course they would up their price in order to make a profit. So I don't see a comparison there.

I to just attended my 30th and paid 7.00 for a glass of wine. The Pinot that I drink runs abut 12 per bottle so I know they made some bucks on me LOL.

Is the wine you drank on Carnival's wine list? Take a look at their wine prices. For instance, the Beringer White Zinfandel is $25.00 a bottle through Carnival. I can buy it at the local grocery store for $5.99 a bottle and get at least 4 glass of wine out of it. Carnival charges $7.00 - see the profit for Carnival? Since Carnival buys in bulk like the grocery stores I can see what their costs are. The biggest profit for any restaurant/bar is not the food, it's the drinks.
