Worst money grab you've seen on board

Yes, it is probably a good idea for you not to teach your children about the laws of supply and demand or the law of price what the market will bear.

I have to agree.....all businesses, not just RC, have the right to make decisions they feel are best for thier company. If they are right, they stay in business. If those decisions are wrong, they go out of business. Its pretty simple actually.

My Econ 101 professor called it the Law of Stupidity, Suckers, and the Free Market

What a funny thread! I guess for us the overpriced item is the wine packages. They really inflate the charges on somewhat cheap wine. I believe we pay 3 times the price for a bottle of wine on the ship, then what we could get it at our local package store for. Oh well, that's the price you pay for wanting to have wine! I will go whine about it now!

As another poster said-retail price is not a fair comparison-compare it what you would pay in a land based resturant-since that is what the ship is -a resturant-and the truth is-the mark up is equal too-or less than what you would pay. and as the bottles get more expensive-the markup goes down. better yet buy frome the featured wines list -i got a bottle of sparkling lambursco on the Navigator for 23.00-same bottle retail-in a millitary class 6-which means with out some taxes-was 11.99-since mark up in a land based resturant is usually 3 times or more on lower end bottles-and slightly less on higher-that was a very good deal. Just be sure you are comparing apples to apples.

This reply says it all. There is no "money grab" on board; just personal choices. Want it and just can't live without it? Then buy it but please don't complain about the price.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the absolute worst money grab of all.

The dreaded fuel surcharge!!!

Sure they aren't charging it now, but they will again. Once again somehow your cruise price will increase by 10 - 20% or more simply because the price of crude oil rose by a couple dollars a barrel. Why they can't just build that cost into the price of the cruise is beyond me.

And that is one money grab that no one nobody can avoid.

Another "grab for the cash" that doesn't make much sense to me are the fresh flowers in the promenade.... JMHO, but what a waste-you can't take them off with you when you disembark because of DEP rules...might as well just leave the $$$ on the floor of your stateroom....

Yes, the gesture is nice, and it's nice to have flowers in your cabin, but I'd rather have them at home where I can enjoy them longer...

Sorry – but I have to disagree. My husband buys a small one stem bud vase the first day of most EVERY sailing. It is very reasonable ($6), for a rose, greenery, baby’s breath and , of, course, the glass vase. It lasts all week. He even gets one on a 3 or 4 night sailing. We leave it for the LA the last morning. I adore seeing it on the desk area.

We have been allowed to take them off the ship, as the soil is the issue, not the flower. However, we generally leave it

The best 6 bucks he spends on the whole cruise!

You can get 2 asprin for 50 cents from the vending machine in the infirmary.

That is still Disney Park-esque in terms of pricing...

For a bottle of 24 aspirin...that would be $6...or about 3 times what it would cost in the store (for generic brand).

I am surprised no one has mentioned photos taken by the cruise lines. I understand that they are not required purchases, but they do have a nice markup.

I scratch my head at all the pics. This is 2010, 90% of the population carriers a decent quality camera with them all the time. I get it 15 or 20 years ago, but not now.

I know Bingo is a big money maker BUT I played on our last cruise and WON the free cruise! Cha Ching!

My wife got a "special" massage deal 3 different types of massage for one hour for $99, she told me that was a good deal.

:) I won $50 on a single game and the last day jackpot of $2300. It cost me $20 to play on 4 days.

How bout if you can't afford it don't buy it. If you can, what does it matter. They do not hold a gun to your head. just sayin.

I have to agree with this. Nobody forces us to gamble drink or to play bingo but what fun would that be.:p:p

Will my grandsons need thick socks for the climbing wall or just normal cotton ones? Any advice you can offer would be appreciated.

Normal cotton socks are just fine, it is some folks show up in their bare feet and have to buy socks.............Have fun on the wall I know the kids will.:)

Shuttle buses in some ports eg Livorno. You cannot get out of this big industrial port unless you take a taxi or a shuttle. Taxis are very reluctant just to drop you in town and RCL are charging $7 per person each way just to bus you less than a couple of miles into town - that's $56 for a family of 4 just to get into a boring town :( before they even start to think of getting a train to Pisa/Florence

I found a machine in the casino that I can't lose on. I put in a dollar bill and I get back 4 quarters. I win every time!!!!

Please... ;)

My SIL did EXACTLY that on a cruise...kept feeding the machine twenty dollar bills and hitting the "cashout button"...

....lets just say that she is NOT the sharpest tack...

::rolls eyes::

I don't get your logic.

Oil is a commodity that gets traded on a daily basis with prices going up and down.

Would you rather just pay $100 more per person for a cruise that may have been able to pump oil for much less during the week of your cruise?

It starts as syrup, I can pretty much guarantee that you wouldn't like it if it weren't watered down.

You are right... and the more syrup a ship/company goes through the more money Coke makes. My husband works for a company that works on the machines that dispense the coke products and often they are too heavy in syrup. We were on Liberty 2 years ago and literally the glass we got was so nasty because it was so heavy in syrup he told the head waiter and they asked him to fix it... so if its too watery just tell the bar tender and they should be able to fix it.
