Valentino Posted August 24, 2010 #26 Share Posted August 24, 2010 on my last cruise at Christmas, they had us down for about 4 formal nights which ultimately turned out to be about six - I never believe what the pre-boarding docs say and just wait to see what the daily news letter says. As i had only packed for 4 formal nights i just wore the same dresses again - don't think anyone noticed and if they did - well their problem and not mine! (I hasten to add they were cleaned between use)! ;)
William Dean Posted August 24, 2010 #27 Share Posted August 24, 2010 NDP And the difference between Semi Formal and Elegant Casual is..... a tie, which I hope you will agree is not much to worry about. You would dine with Ladies and yet not wear a tie?

bobby1119 Posted October 26, 2010 #31 Share Posted October 26, 2010 I never had the privilege of sailing on QE2...do I understand your post correctly in that "elegant casual" was never on the evening dress code? Oddly enough, I can see how that would simplify packing. Hi Salacia, Elegant casual (or casual elegant) only appeared on longer cruises of QE2. During the world cruise, for example, there were about a dozen casual elegant nights, generally when we overnighted or had a departure later than 6pm...I recall that there were about 60 formal nights, while the rest were semi-formal (jacket and tie). On QE2, semi-formal was called "informal." Bobby
bobby1119 Posted October 26, 2010 #32 Share Posted October 26, 2010 Hi, For the Jan.3rd 2011 10 Night Caribbean Calypso cruise on the QM2, does anyone know what the breakdown will be for the number of formal nights etc? Never too early to start our packing list...lol Hi Argus, I am on both the January 3rd and the November 27th cruises to the Caribbean. Both cruises are almost identical; The January sailing omits Grenada is 10 days instead of 11. I have not received the January pre-voyage documents yet, but the breakdown for the November sailing is: 1. Casual Elegant (sailing night) 2. Formal (at sea) 3. Formal (at sea) 4. Semi Formal (St. Thomas) 5. Semi Formal (St. Lucia) 6. Semi Formal (Grenada) 7. Casual Elegant (Barbados) 8. Formal (at sea) 9. Semi Formal (Grand Turk) 10. Formal (at sea) 11 Casual Elegant (last night) For the January cruise, I would count on 4 formal nights. But as others has suggested here and elsewhere, some of these could change. See you on board!
