ZONE Question- when leaving the ship

:)-I see when you leave for an excursion off the ship- they will call you by ZONE. What is that and how do you know your zone? Also, are there any "tips" to speed up boarding and leaving the ship? I am bringing 11 on board so any tips would be GREAT! Thanks!!

They typically will call you by those of you who are on the same shore excursion. If there is more than one group doing the same shore excursion they will call one group at a time. Your tickets will note what group you are in.

It is always helpful to mention what cruise ship you are on.

The only tip for 11 people on the same excursion is to make sure all 11 are actually in the same group. Many times there will be several groups doing the same excursion. Secondly, have everyone go together to the meeting place assigned for your excursion group and sit together. This insures that you will get off the ship together.

What happens if we have booked excursions not with the cruise ship, but with independent operators at the ports? How will we know when we can leave the ship?

We are sailing Celebrity Summit.

Thanks!

It's always wise to give them an estimated time when you will be off the ship. It usually will vary between 30 minutes to 1 hour assuming no tender is involved. Let them know that there is always a chance that you can be running late. If you have a cell phone have a contact cell phone number for them.

Agreed 100%

Tour operators know the routine, so no need to worry.

But well worth trading cellphone numbers.

As long as everyone has theirs switched on & accessible - in my experience in such situations about 50% of folk don't

ps come back for more detailed info if it's a tender port.

If this is an independent excursion, you will have to decide your own "zone" or meeting place.

Tell everyone in your group the meeting time and place, giving yourselves a window of 15-20 minutes for stragglers. Then, plan on some of them asking you again a few times and calling to confirm when you are almost out your cabin door. Then plan on calling a couple of them in their cabin to remind them that everyone is waiting for them in the _____ and you have to leave now. You can try writing it down, but some will misplace the piece of paper...try stapling it to their foreheads.

Then, expect a few to be angry because they missed the excursion because they didn't understand the instructions. Or they didn't like the excursions and wished they would have done ____.

In other words, it's impossible to please everyone in a group. For a group this large I'd hesitate to be the arranger.

I'm going to give it another try next year, but it will be a wine tour and most of us are winos that will show up any time, day or night, to go on a wine tour. We'll see ;)

The tour guides already know what time the ship is scheduled to arrive, but - how does getting off the ship work? Do we line up? Are we assigned times to disembark? How soon after we come into port (no tenders scheduled for any of our stops) are we physically able to leave the ship?

Oh, and while we will have a cell phone with us on the ship - we will never turn it on or use it during the seven day cruise, it'll be locked in the safe...
